Campus is buzzing about a new Admissions rock musical that was filmed throughout first semester. The musical was written, directed, and filmed by current students and recent alumni (including some of our own recently graduated admissions staff!). We think it is safe to say that there has never been another admissions presentation like it! We’re premiering this video tonight at the Whitney Humanities Center for the campus community in New Haven, but we wanted to let you know about this exciting event and fantastic film. The musical is called "That’s Why I Chose Yale."

The live premiere is scheduled for 7pm ET, but we’ll also make the musical available online at 7pm. Visit youtube to participate in the world premiere with the rest of Yale’s campus and your fellow alumni. "That’s Why I Chose Yale" will be featured content at that link.

Tonight’s premiere is not just a way to share this incredible new musical, it is also a celebration of the amazing campus collaboration that went into this production: hundreds of students turned out for big group scenes; libraries, museums, labs, and countless other facilities welcomed our film crews; and faculty, administrators, and staff willingly responded to casting calls. (Be sure to watch the credits all the way through to truly appreciate this campus-wide effort.) While we certainly intended for the content of this film to convey the spirit of Yale College, we’ve subsequently realized that the whole production process itself perhaps even better reflects the creativity, spirit of fun, collaborative nature, generosity, and remarkable potential of undergraduate life at Yale.

I will shamelessly admit that I’m a big fan of Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider, current Yale undergrads, who have produced some amazing stuff. Check youtube. According to today’s Yale Daily News article, Sam is featured in the new video, and Kurt is a producer.

Wow, this is amazing! I’m really into theatre anddd I’m a really big fan of Sam Tsui and Kurt Schneider too :] (And I’m really into Yale, lol)
Marcia Landesman visited my school, she’s my regional admissions officer ^^

one of the singers in the video (the brownish red-haired girl with the glasses in the dorm) looks EXACTLY like my best friend. its quite scary o.o

I’ll be honest—I could not possibly be less interested in this kind of a thing. I’m sure Yale is the kind of place that really needs to boost its applicant numbers and yield ratios. I guess they can joke around about “why they chose Yale” but for what, 95% of people who would so wish, they can’t choose Yale.

That’s not to say they shouldn’t have made the video, of course. They can do what they want. I’m just saying.
