"That’s Why I Chose Yale" to premier on youtube

I noticed that my regional admissions office was one of the vocalists… sweet

I also thought the video was absolutely wonderful. Kudos to all the students involved. Dbate, what did you think was “terrible” about it?

Eh, longer YouTube things almost never load completely for me. I saw the first song, so I’ll just try it better when my WiFi is being nicer.

Nonetheless, my fave Yale-ish Youtube videos are the Dartmouth Yale Enthusiasts ([YouTube - DYE Prank](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOQP738hnPY)), which is hilarious for both Dartmouth and Yale fans, and Everyone’s A VIP to Someone by Great Caesar ([YouTube - Everyone’s a VIP to Someone – Great Caesar](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L51a8XgLLMI)). Dartmouth Yale Enthusiasts includes great quotables like “Just look at the facts: Yale is the oldest school in the world, Yale was founded by God, Yale is mostly constructed out of gold.” And A guy I know at Yale did the video editing for the music video.

I have to say, that was AMAZING.

Haha I agree with Millancad, the Dartmouth DYE Prank is definitely one of the funniest college videos I’ve ever seen.

It seemed really unprofessional in terms of the quality of acting, this is especially glaring considering that Yale has a renowned drama school.

That’s not what I thought, Dbate.

It struck me as tongue-in-cheek, as in “we know this is hokey and we are in on the joke.”

It’s a little elbow jab at the whole ‘admissions tour’ thing.

I agree; the acting is obviously bad, but I think the point was to tone it down and make it “lighthearted” as a means of connection to Yalie hopefuls. And get rid of the inaccessible Ivy League stereotype.

I think they did a great job with this. Clearly “over the top” and they knew it was and wanted it to be that way. Softens the “edges” around Yale. Bravo to the production team.

This is definetly a, “F@#$ You,” to Harvard’s video!

[Harvard College Admissions § About Harvard: Watch the Harvard Video](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/about/video/index.html)

I thought the acting was very appropriate to the whole style of the video

OMG The video is awesome!

Also, what’s up with that bit at the beginning? This decision will follow you into the future?

That reminds me of the Johns Hopkins Medical School website. There’s a page that says “Does where you go to Medical School really matter?” and then their answer is a straight up “Yes.”

It’s pretty much a huge jerk move to imply that the actual school matters so much in relation to the applicant when you’re sporting sub-10% acceptance rates.

I must say, I really liked Harvard’s video too - its extremely different, but there’s things to like about each.

I thought Yale’s was meant to be camp and over the top - (hence the acting), which was quite endearing. :D

One reaction I had to the video was that it seemed too one-sided with theatre/art/singing/dance. Even the classroom scene was a Drama class, and in the library scene the host talks about film, etc. resources. While my D enjoys all of those subjects, she did not choose Yale to major in any of those fields or even to participate in any of those ECs. There was a lab scene, but D is not a science person either. I actually found myself questioning for a split second, “Wait, doesn’t Yale offer a wide array of university studies? Did D make a mistake? Now that I think of it, did I ever actually look at the majors offered there? Maybe everyone is in the Arts!” I actually went back and checked Yale’s website to be sure. lol talk about a “senior moment!”

Bay, I actually think it is pretty broad in terms of extracurriculars (e.g. sports, dance groups, Yale Political Union, etc). Sure, they didn’t show an Econ class – but COME ON! They can’t show everything, and they are really trying to sell the school life rather than just academics.

I agree that it panders to theater and music ppl, but that is largely b/c it is a musical lol.

Also, I wanna add that the adcoms and students are well aware that they are making fun of themselves to some extent, but they are enjoying it too… the Head of Admissions said that he expects to see lots of parodies.

Overall, I think it is fantastic.

Can you, guys, help an international student? I can’t hear what is that boy at the end saying to his father. It’s something like “_____ was better”. Who was better? Why would some other school be shown as better in the Yale video? I’m confused

That person says “‘Cats’ was better”. “Cats” is a well-known musical. The fact that he compared the two is another example of the producers poking fun at themselves.

LOL!!! It makes sense now! Thank you!
