Being alone or with friend/family for support?
I’ll probably be alone in my room. I’ve convinced my mom that I can only find out my decision from Harvard by mail, which she believes will come on April 4th (they mail it April 1st and then it takes 3 days to come in the mail).

Listening to song or not?
Maybe some piano covers by iwillbot on youtube.

Checking your phone or computer?
Laptop Same one I found out my MIT / SCEA Yale decisions from. It’s been a lucky laptop so far.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
Definitely not. Why would I do this?

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
Ideally 5pm. I have fencing from 6:30 -8:30, so the wait would be too agonizing.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
I only have Harvard coming out on that day.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
EXCITED. But strangely, excitement feels like happiness. It should be a neutral feeling, because both acceptance and rejection are very possible for me, but for some reason I feel happy. Let’s hope it remains that way beyond Wednesday.

What will your reaction be if you are:

ACCEPTED Scream once in my room. Go outside and scream again, and again. Then again for good measure. Then screw around at fencing practice that day, doing jump flicks and sloppy parrying for fun. Lots of fleches and counterattacks and craziness.

WAITLISTED. Remain on the waitlist, hoping for good things to happen. Then enjoy CPW and BD days, and look forward to the bright future ahead.

REJECTED. Time to make Yale win the Putnam.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Opening it at school w/ 2 other friends in our publication office.

Listening to song or not?
Probably not, though one of my friends is an audiophile, so this is debatable.

Checking your phone or the computer?
I will be checking a computer.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
No, absolutely not.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
Later, around 3:05 PDT, so around 6 PM EDT?

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
One by one, starting w/ UPenn for reassurance, then moving up/down/left/right, etc.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Neutral, it’s pointless to get your hopes up or down right now.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED
Wee.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Alone, in my pajamas, immediately after waking up @ 5 AM.

Listening to song or not?
Nah.

Checking your phone or the computer?
Laptop.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
Uh, no.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
5 AM on the dot.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
All at once. Won’t really have a choice, since my email inbox shows previews of the emails automatically :P

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Optimistic!

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Alone.

Listening to song or not?
Depends on my mood.

Checking your phone or the computer?
Dunno. I’m at school that time.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
No. I’ll force myself to see.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
Maybe 2 AM the next morning. Maybe 8 PM the same day.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
One-by-one.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Mixed. Even if you feel pessimistic, there’s always this flicker of hope you cling onto.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED: Depends. At school I would scream and freak out with my friends.
9. WAITLISTED: Depends.
10. REJECTED: I don’t know. I always wonder how I would react to a rejection.

What will you be doing right before you check your admission status of whether or not you made the cut? Let’s take a poll.

Being alone or with friend/family for support? ALONE. I’m on Spring Break, and I haven’t told any family members that the decision date is March 30–they think it’s April 1st. That gives me a day or two to process a potential rejection before having to tell anyone

Listening to song or not? Not sure. Probably will listen to something to distract me.

Checking your phone or the computer? Computer.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not? No, only me.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later? 5PM.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral? Never neutral. I waver between pessimism and optimism…and my mood and stress levels fluctuate accordingly.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED: Thrilled like never before. Years of low self confidence gone. Screaming with joy.
9. WAITLISTED–rather upset. It would make this grueling process that much longer and bring back the stress and anxiety of first semester. But, I would have a glimmer of hope left.
10. REJECTED–crushed. I’d curl up and try to fall asleep…but fail. Depression, suicidal thoughts, bad things. As much as I have tried to prepare myself for this possible outcome, I would be devastated.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
I’m going to be at school, and I’m probably going to bring my own computer (as I usually do), so I’m going to make sure no one is around me. Although, considering it’s Harvard, it wouldn’t really matter to me if people saw that I got rejected because…well…it’s Harvard…lol

Listening to song or not?
Nah, I’ll just check it with no music. I’ll be at school anyway, so I can’t exactly listen to any music.

Checking your phone or the computer?
I don’t have internet on my phone and don’t want to use anyone else’s, so I’m just going to check on the computer.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
No. At the very most, I would only let my sister or one of my parents do it, and that’s only if I felt like it. There’s only one friend I can think of who I’d allow to check for me - otherwise, NO friends at all. But generally, I’d want to check first and then spill the news.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
It just so happens that the teacher of the class I have at the time of the decision release (2:00 for me since I’m in CA) hates when people use laptops in class, so I might very well end up checking after school in some secluded part of the library lol.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
I’ll check one-by-one and carefully read each college’s letter or information (I have Harvard, Cornell and Columbia at 2). If I suddenly opened all 3 colleges at once and I got rejected from all, it would feel so much worse, at least in my opinion.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
I’m expecting rejection, but I don’t necessarily feel extremely pessimistic about it, because I’m mostly neutral about Harvard and have already told myself not to become disappointed by a rejection.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED
Stare at the computer for a good minute and then probably lose my mind.
9. WAITLISTED
I’ll actually feel really happy. Waitlist at Harvard? That’s so awesome! It’s almost like an acceptance, in its own little way.
10. REJECTED
I’ll be disappointed for a few minutes, or something, because any rejection hurts. Then I’ll realize it’s Harvard, and I’ll continue with life. A rejection at Cornell or Duke would hurt much more for me, though.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Alone. Family/friends just increase the pressure.

Listening to song or not?
Nope.

Checking your phone or the computer?
Computer; I’ll be at home.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
Of course not! I can’t imagine someone knowing before me…

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
Well, it’s 2pm for me here. And I’m on Spring Break, so I’ll be at home. I’ll probably just check as soon as I can (assuming I’ve woken up at that point;)).

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
Um, how would you check them all at once??? I guess one-by-one, though. I don’t know what order I’ll do it in–just whatever I feel like at the time.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Fairly optimistic since I got an early write from Columbia. And if I don’t get into HYP, I’ve still got great options.
What will your reaction be if you are:

ACCEPTED
Epic grin, dance around the table, party with my mother. Go on an epic victory run.

WAITLISTED
I would probably not stay on. IDK. I don’t want any more uncertainty. So I guess I’d be kinda ****ed, 'cause I’d really rather just have an acceptance or rejection. Especially if I get waitlisted at Yale, after being deferred SCEA! Go an a get-out-your-frustration run.

REJECTED
Awww well. Whatever. And now my decisions are easier, because I have fewer schools to choose from! Go on a endorphins–>HAPPINESS despite rejection run. :D

@stevierimbaud: In fencing we scream really loudly after scoring just one point. Some people scream even if they dont get the point. Getting into Harvard is like scoring a million points on everyone in the whole world. Screaming is almost not good enough to express the sheer volume of happiness that comes in that moment, but it’s all we have.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Alone, unless my roommate happens to be in the room at the same time.

Listening to song or not?
I’ll probably have mediamonkey on shuffle.

Checking your phone or the computer?
Computer. I won’t have any important obligations at the time.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
Look at it myself. I’ve been through this before.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
Finding out ASAP.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
One-by-one. How would all at once work?

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Realistic.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED
Yell, post it on Facebook, call my parents/cousin.
9. WAITLISTED
Not be surprised. Some of my stuff was late.
10. REJECTED
Be disappointed, but not too disappointed since I already have some great options.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
My mother will be with me because she wants to find out the decision even more than I do!

Listening to song or not?
Not really, because my sister will be asleep in the same room.

Checking your phone or the computer?
Computer. My phone doesn’t open web pages very well.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
No, I’m not scared to look first.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
I’ll try to find out at 5pm (2am Pakistan time) but if their server crashes or something, I’ll wait for 15 minutes.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
One-by-one. I need some interval between successive rejections. :P

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Slightly pessimistic, since I got rejected by schools a lot less selective than Harvard.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED: Performing cartwheels and texting my friends!
9. WAITLISTED: I’ll hang my head in disappointment and go back to bed.
10. REJECTED: Cool indifference. I know I tried my best.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Alone, my family doesnt know i applied… my aunt does, she doesnt care… my mom cares but she lives Bangladesh… i’ll call her:)

Listening to song or not?
not at the moment i open.

Checking your phone or the computer?
of course computer…or maybe mail.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
Nope, i can handle my rejection…

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
around that time.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
Only one, Just Harvard!

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
hopefull ;)

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED- scream scream, scare my aunt+uncle. fumble with phone to let everyone know… 1st my mom!!
WAITLISTED- still out of breath… at least i m not a reject… call my mom
10. REJECTED- whateves…i knew it… call my mom ( Most Likely)

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Originally both my parents were going to come home at 3 (decisions are at 4) and wait but I told them that that would be exceedingly cruel. Now I’ll be alone, probably up in my room.

Listening to song or not?
My laptop will be on mute so that I don’t freak out about hearing/not hearing congratulations music for the schools that do that.

Checking your phone or the computer?
Computer. My phone doesn’t know what a webpage is, and even if it did I could never figure out how to do that.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
No, absolutely not.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
I’m going to try to time my run so that I’m getting back home at exactly 4, so I’ll check immediately (or as soon as the inundated servers let me).

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
One-by-one. I have a spread sheet where I will write acceptance/rejection for each school (it seems cruel, but I don’t want to mix up where I got accepted/rejected since I applied to so many!)

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
I’m a bit optimistic, though the last couple of days have been brutally nervous (especially since yesterday I was waitlisted at Georgetown). My mother told me yesterday that I was going to get flat out rejected from all of the Ivies, so I’m trying to prepare myself for it.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED: I’ll have several friends and family members to call.
9. WAITLISTED/REJECTION: This sounds weak and terrible, but if I get rejected from all five schools at the same time, I will most definitely cry and probably go running again.
