No, really, I'm here to help! Every year, a freshman seems to come on here and answer basic questions seniors have about college. I figured, this year, why don't I give it a shot?

So, with that, feel free to ask me your questions. The only thing I will not answer is anything about chances! I do not do chances; I am notoriously bad with chances. In my head, of course, because I wouldn't unleash my miserable advice on some poor, genuinely concerned soul.

I can also ask my friends for help, if necessary, so I may take a little bit of time to answer some more complicated/not directly related to me questions.

USC is actually a really friendly place. Everyone I’ve met has been polite at the very least. Sure, I’ve met some people I don’t particularly like, but it’s not because they aren’t friendly (more because our personalities just don’t mix well). But USC is a very social and friendly school.

Internationals: yes. I’ve met quite a few international students so far. They actually represent a decent number of countries, too.

I’m happy to hear both these things! Do you live in the dorms?

Do you have any insight on how competitive it is for international students? I’m from Canada and am applying as an international student for Fall 2012.

Parkside: I have a bunch of friends living there and really enjoying it. One lives in IRC and I think she likes it, but the happiest ones are in Arts and Humanities. Something to consider.

lanz-Yes, I am enjoying USC so far! The nicest thing about it is that SC is somewhat of a school that never sleeps. It seems like there’s always something going on (culturally speaking. Make sure to sign up for the Visions and Voices email list. I’ve been to quite a few interesting events through Visions and Voices).

You’re certainly getting me excited at the possibility of attending USC. I love that restless type of environment. I will definitely keep the Visions and Voices email list in mind. :)

Laurier-I do not drink and I haven’t been to a single party since I started at USC. I still have a ton of friends and we have a lot of fun.

The students are great! There really hasn’t been a major issue for me in terms of people being “cliquey.” I get along with everyone. As for looks, no pressure whatsoever. I’ll share my classic line: Helena Bonham Carter is my style icon (100% true. She really is. I love her style!) and that’s pretty much how I dress, too.

Academically challenging for me right now! GEs can be a little stressful.

-I have family in the area and they always joke saying USC stands for “University of Spoiled Children” Do you feel that there are a surplus of “arrogant rich kids”, as my family would say.

-My other question is about costs. I am eligable for 0 need-based financial aid and not smart enough for any merit-aid. I live in pennsylvania which is a rather long commute and i’m wondering if you have any idea what kind of travel cost there is for east coast kids whether you are one or you know one. I have to pay $55,000 to go there + travel costs and shipping costs so i’d like to get a handle of what those extra costs will be.

Might not be that much, but somewhere near there. Flights can average out to 600$ round trip in peak season. Shuttle to airport is 15-20 each way.

Artleye-No. I do not meet “arrogant rich kids,” ever. So many people at USC are on aid. That’s true of almost every school in the country. Not everyone here has a ton of money and it’d be stupid to go off that old stereotype. We’re a pretty diverse student body, if I do say so myself!

Flights are pricy. I’m trying to book a flight upstate to see my best friend and I’ll probably be paying close to $300 round trip. And that’s upstate.
