The 2013 Hidden Gems Acceptance List

Thanks so much! @alooknac. Yo @KatrissRed See you at re-visit???

@alooknac

Lol. Yes, we are used to, by now, the looks of horror on people’s faces when we mention our S is in BS. Then I already know what their next comment will be (it’s as predictable as the response to a “knock knock” joke), “oh, we could never send our child away…”

For the new families joining the BS fold, better prepare your own dialogue when u get the looks of horror.

I think next time for grins, I will come up w a really cheeky reply ;)

We have just been telling others that “it is her decision. She is driving the bus…” I think those looks might be even more alarmed by that! LOL

@florencez734- St. George’s definitely belongs on the HG list- Congratulations!!

St. Mark’s School and NMH school.

Accepted into Mercersburg as an international student. Still waiting for my financial aid notification though…

Accepted at NMH!! :)

Someone else applied to 10-11th grade at NMH?

Asheville in Asheville NC

@GMT: lmao, my relatives in America do not even know what UPenn is, let alone Andover

Isn’t U Penn that big state school with Joe Paterno & the Nittany Lions? ;)

Got accepted into St. Andrews school DE Is anyone else going in the fall?

I have two kids enrolled in BS. K1 is at a Dream School and last year K2 was accepted to two Dream Schools, but chose a Gem. Both kids are having fantastic experiences, but every time I walk around K2’s campus, I can’t help but think: Wow. This kid has it made.

There is so much written about a few select schools and I hope that changes. Hopefully Gem students and parents will post more about their schools. They’re all pretty amazing and I know people would love to learn more about them.

I hope more good news flows in today! Congratulations everyone!!

My S was accepted into Loomis Chaffee with an LC Scholar merit award and waitlisted at 4 “top tier schools”. Hardly any possibility of coming off the wait list, as we understand, so we are learning to “love the school that loves us”. S is an international applicant. I am very happy for him.

Daughter will be attending either Kent or Mercersburg as a new junior next year. Technically, she’s a repeat but it’s more of a grade skip correction. She’ll still probably be the youngest, but we’re not worried. She’s heavily leaning (90%+ sure) towards Mburg for a number of reasons, none of which have to do with academics but more “quality of life” issues like Saturday classes, dress code, starting time, general vibe of campus, slightly warmer climate, and certainly not last…the Burgin Center for the Arts.

Those of you who know her story appreciate how huge this is and also know how relieved I am that she will not have to be in college next year, having exhausted her local curriculum. But goodness, I’m gonna miss her!

BTW, she was WLed at Choate. The letter had the FA escape clause. It’s OK. She applied for tenth grade there (true repeat) but honestly, I don’t think the girl can take three more years of high school, no matter how enriched.

Congratulations to you Neato and your D. Long journey nevertheless with a happy ending.

My C was accepted to Concord Academy and St. Mark’s. Despite the fact that I’ve lived in Mass. my entire life, I knew nothing about “acronym” schools until I found this forum. So those letters didn’t factor in to our prep school search. C will be attending revisit days, but CA is the likely winner, since that has been C’s top choice through most of the process. We’ll see though. We had mixed feelings about SMS at the start, but it has grown on us with time. Either way, C will get a great education.

So happy for you Neato! :)

Congratulations, Neato!!!

I’m so excited for your daughter. I’ve followed your adventure and feel as if our children are kindred spirits in many ways.

Great big thanks and hugs to you for sharing your valuable advice, knowledge, and humor here on CC. You have helped and inspired so many of us with your insight and thoughtfulness!

DC was admitted to the following hidden gems: Kent, Mercersburg, and NMH.

Neato–that’s some of the best news this weekend. Dancing for you and your daughter. A million hugs and a smile a mile wide. :)
