The 2013 Hidden Gems Acceptance List

Neato, wonderful! Three cheers for courage, and persistence! Hip, Hip, Hooray!

Neato, that’s absolutely wonderful. You and your daughter have every reason to celebrate!
Do let us know which she ultimately chooses!

Congrats neato!!

honorarymom: SMS is a school on the move. It is definitely getting stronger, especially academically, each year and the colleges are aware of that fact. Give it a shot. (I have no dog in this hunt-- I just have been watching SMS and speaking with a number of friends who are either ed consultants in the boston area or admissions people at local universities…all of them say good things about the direction of SMS.)

photodad is a big CA booster and volunteers at the school-- he can give you his take on CA.

Chatham hall! This is my second admissions round. I applied to fourteen and got waitlisted at all but chatham with near full FA

Sent from my ADR6330VW using CC

BTW-- there is a SMS thread you can check out.

My daughter was accepted to her first choice, Midland in Los Olivos as well as Cambridge School of Weston.

ps, I wrote a whole novel of a post on our second try experience but it got deleted before I could post it. Ill try again later if I can and there is interest.

Also, Congrats to Neatos daughter, that is wonderful news! Your comments and humor have also made an impact on our journey.

HailuMu-- what an amazing set of choices–congrats to your daughter and the family.

Congratulations Neato! Like everyone else, I’ve been a big fan, too. I’m so happy for you and your daughter.

@xDragonFlyx: Wow- Congratulations!

It’s been great to see all the wonderful results posted yesterday and today- I hope acceptance letters arrive soon for those still waiting. Please post them when they do!

My son got into his dream school - Tabor. Also into Portsmouth Abbey. WL at St. Georges and Brooks. Congrats, everyone!!!

Etondad: thanks for the words on SMS. My husband and I think very highly of both SMS and CA, so the decision will be totally up to C after revisiting both. One big issue is that C was accepted to SMS as a boarder, and to CA as a day student. So the choice might depend more on whether C wants to board, than differences between the schools.

Congratulations to you all! Wonderful reading all of these posts from excited students and parents. Love hearing about all the families who got in after a disappointing round last year, and am so glad to hear the successful FA stories too. Love this thread! I hope that next year we are posting on the 2014 Hidden Gems Acceptance List!

honoraryamom: I’ve know a few kids who went to SMS and a lot of kids who attend CA, and all have been very happy with their choice. You have a couple of great options that will provide fairly different experiences. One additional consideration is that at CA your C could switch from day to boarding for a later year, if C is unsure about boarding now but wants to keep the door open.

I received my acceptance letter from Chatham Hall (all girls…sorry boys :P) yesterday. I needed about 85% FA… Chatham gave me 99.9%.
Chatham was and is my number 1 choice and I’m truly grateful for the generosity they have shown to me. Seriously, I’ve never been so happy.

A little bit about the school…
-it has <150 students (really small class sizes)
-excellent facilities (I fell in love with the science building on my campus tour)
-very kind faculty (My interviewer was very happy and energetic and the teaching style was very appealing.)
-charming little town (VERY small) (military boarding school right across the street)
-great riding program (I don’t ride so…not much elaboration there)
-superb academics (students matriculate to top U.S. colleges-including a few ivy leagues)
-located in the foothills of the Old Dominion state (VA)

Overall experience with the admissions process at Chatham was very nerve-racking at times, yet the very helpful AO’s were there to answer all of my (sometimes outrageous) questions.

SO HAPPY TO BE JOINING THE TURTLES IN 2013/2014 SCHOOL YEAR!

Ah, photodad, you have hit upon exactly what my C would love: to do 1st year or two as day student, then switch to boarding. Do you have any thoughts about the likelihood of available space at CA for a day student to switch to boarding after the first year? We did ask that question during our visit and the interviewer implied it would be unlikely.

My child has been accepted to Proctor Academy in NH, Vermont Academy and Kents Hill in Maine. They seem similar, all have learning skills centers which she would attend, and they all seem to have similar academics and athletics and campuses. Does anyone have any feedback on any of these three schools that would help us decide? Thanks very much

Also, photodad, I would be interested in how you compare the experiences at SMS vs. CA. I know they are very different schools, and while I think my C would fit at either, I would love to hear from someone who has known kids at each. Feel free to PM me if you prefer not to go public with this.

Anyone attending NMH’s revisit days? :)

Ps. my mom “threats” to join the CC parents! :)
