I was wondering: do some schools prefer students with a specific interest/background? For example- Andover wanting to admit students that fence.
@purplereader I think you’ll find all school’s are looking for kids with various backgrounds…obviously, if you fence, you’d look at schools who have fencing as a sport should you want to continue. I don’t think one particular school, however, takes more kids who do X…they are all looking for a balance in the class they create. Be sure to highlight everything you’ve tried/done/accomplished outside of your academics & main sports. I think that is what buuznkud failed to do…he only listed what he thought was worthy to note.
Also: A school’s needs could change from year to year. If the stellar Varsity soccer goalie graduates this year, guess what they’ll be looking for next year?
Thanks for the responses, @buuzn03 and @CaliMex ! I absolutely agree that schools want to be well-rounded and they want different people each year to fill vacant spots. No one has asked about this yet, but I don’t know if Andover actually prefers students that fence. It was just a hypothetical statement.
@SevenDad is the fencing guru, not just for BS, but for all of CC.
I heard @SevenDad was just the guru, period. That’s the word on the CC street, anyway!
Hi,
It’s been a while since anyone has posted on this thread, but I had a question related to an interview and didn’t want to create a new thread. Are you allowed to schedule visits and interviews on weekends?
Thanks!
You have to call each school and find out. I think in the busy season there are interviews on weekends. My student at Choate was a tour guide and I am fairly certain she did tours on the weekends for prospective students. I remember going to Deerfield for DD2 on Columbus Day. This was a crazy weekend/day for interviews as public school students had it off making it prime time to schedule an interview in the fall.
Each school sets up its own interview schedule so you need to check with the schools in question. In general, interviews are available on Saturdays (but usually not on Sundays), but they fill very quickly, so plan ahead.
Thank you!! @preppedparent @skieurope
