Hey, so If I take the ACT December 12, can I still send in the scores late, since they don’t start the selection process until February? Has any one done this before? Thanks!

It will be too late. The latest test scores will be November.

I thought they look at December too?

I just had a college night 2 days ago and there was a rep from cal poly and said csu’s dont take any dec scores. Nov was the latest.

KoreanBoi is correct.

are you sure thats not just to guarantee that they will be used? Is there like a chance they could be used if I did them in December?

I got this from the site, for those who are also interested.

“If you are applying for the Fall Quarter, scores from ACT or SAT tests taken after November are not guaranteed to be used in the selection process.”

I called and they said as long as they get their before February you are fine, But does anyone know WHEN in February.

and How long will it take for me to get my ACT scores? Does it really take 6 weeks?!!

^ No. Cal Poly receives ACT electronically every week during peak time. If you concern, call ACT directly, they can give you in details the scheduled delivery date for Dec.

a_mom, what is that “no” referring to? Are you saying I won’t be able to send it in on time?

:) I mean - no, it should NOT take 6 weeks for send/receive test score

However, you have to keep in mind that although the decision is not come out until Feb, they need to process/input each applicant’s data, then “rank” each, find the cut-off, or even debate which applicant they should take. So they need plenty of time after receive all your grade and score for that.

The website does say the test after Nov are NOT guaranteed, but I think you should call them directly to see if they take Dec as in exception.

ya I called, they don’t release decisions till april, they begin entering everyones data in February, which is why It has to be there February 1st. How long will it take to get there electronically? and how long will it take them to record it?

thanks!!

OK, I had no idea how long it took DD’s score appeared on CalPoly’s database since she didn’t check with them.

We know her score sent from ACT the first Wed. of Oct. We also know her score appears on ACT score manager like a week ago. So in her case, ACT to CSU systemwide database (door to door) was about 4 weeks, but I’m sure CalPoly had her score much earlier. When calling CSUmentor help, I was told it will take 2 to 4 week for the CSU to get the score input into CSU systemwide database when the score was sent to individual campus. So go figure.

So acturally, it is possible that take up to 6 week for you order score to show up in ACT score manger, I had to take back my work in post #10. But it could be shorter for Cal Poly to have your score as long as you send to them directly. If you really want to know the time frame, call Cal Poly again and ask wisely that how ofter do they DOWNLOAD the act score and input to its own system. (Since even ACT sent on every Wed, it does not mean CalPoly will download them right away). Hope this explain everything.

thanks, im still a little confused though

1) so when I sign up should I put cal poly down as a score recipient or should I wait till i get my scores on the computer and then send them since they want them electronic.

2) So when you send the score to cal poly, they download or input scores on their records on a time frame, like once a week for example?

3) Are you saying I have a good chance of getting it there on time or not?

thanks a_mom your helping me out a lot!

1) I suggest you put down CalPoly and NOT wait til you see the score, because
a. Faster that way. Not sure about ACT. For SAT, score sent to recipient one day before it’s available on the web. If you wait til you see the score, at least 24 hr for ACT processing then it has to wait for the next schedule day.
b. You can save $9

2) ACT said that they send to Calpoly at least once a week. But didn’t say when the campus retrieve it. As long as score sent out, ACT is not responsible for the time college retrive it. So you need to check CalPoly for that time frame. I never talked to CalPoly for that matter, so I don’t know.

3) You might hit it. But seriously, I don’t suggest you take the risk since CalPoly clearly states Dec test in NOT guarenteed. You don’t have any ground if things don’t work out even the delay is not caused by you.

I hope you already have some earlier score to back you up. If not, you have no choice but go for it. Then have it sent during registration, don’t wait til you see it. Call ACT to find out the exact date the score is sent, give a 48 hours, follow up by a call to CalPoly to make sure they retrieve it. Good luck!

Are you going to use your ACT score for UC application? The reason I’m asking is, w/o writing, score comes out 2 1/2 week after the test; With writing, it takes another 2 weeks on top of that.

Dec test is 12/12. With wriing, your score is out in mid-Jan earliest. Without writing, your score is out around Xmas, but you’ll be hit by the holiday break that admisson office might be closed. It doesn’t look good. There’s reason why Dec test is not guaranteed. Do you have other SAT or ACT score already? How about standby for the Nov. SAT

thanks, I got a 1630 on the sat, 1060 math and reading(i’m really bad at math).

If I don’t take the writing, I could get my scores back by early January, and that would still give me 2 or 3 weeks to send my score to cal poly, that doesn’t sound to risky.

I think they don’t guarantee it because if ANYONE doesn’t make the February 1st deadline then they can’t guarantee it, even if it’s just the people who get there scores back the 7th or 8th week due to messing up on filling out their test and tacking the essay.

Also they didn’t tell me a specific date in February, they just said “February”, so theres a good chance that it wont be the very first week of February which could buy me some time.

thanks for the help, let me know if my reasoning doesn’t make sense.

Ok, go for it. You have no other choices. Make sure call CalPoly in mid/late-Jan to confirm they get your score.

I’ve known quite a few kids do much better on ACT. The key is SPEED. Good luck!!!

thanks! Im more motivated to study this time, and there are more subjects to average out my poor math performance, so hopefully I will do better
