Parents with last child gone-
"Love Shack" B-52's

Luckysmom:

I love your choices, especially those for parents after the decision!

There is a song by Metallica called Motorbreath that I have quoted to my daughter numerous times:

Those people who tell you not to take chances
They are all missing what life's about
You only live once so take hold of the chance
Don't end up like others
Same song and dance

TheDad ~ LOL, your list is great. In fact your list is very much like my list, which surprises me, but I don't know why.

Since I was originally thinking of one song from each of us, and it's abundantly clear that many songs are better, I will add "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack for every shy, quiet kid going away to college. Especially for the CS nerds (like my son) who might be tempted to sit in front of the screen too much...

One other came to mind, Closing Time by Semisonic:

"Every new begining comes from some other begining's end"

Don't know why, but I always loved that line.

"I Want You To Want Me" (Cheap Trick)

S's friend is currently agonizing over two of her top choice school acceptances and has started to go around singing her own version of the Mary McGregor song...

Torn between two schools
Feeling like a fool
Loving both of them
Is breaking all the rules!

My goodness roshke, how does she even KNOW that song?

For those who got rejected by the "only school they wanted" and who this time next year will be totally in love with the school they attend:

Ain't Love Strange -- Paul Thorn

And, for those who try to give kids advice, wise counsel and/or the experience of years when it comes to making decisions (only to be completely ignored):

Ooh La La -- Faces

Poor Old Granddad
I lauged at all his words . . .

For those completely exhausted by the whole process (students and parents) who just want a nice long nap, the slightly edited Green Day title:

Wake Me Up When September COMES

I love "Another One Bites The Dust"!

lderochi - Haha, I actually know the answer to your question! She picked it up from her mom, who plays cards and is also a friend of mine. Mom always sings that song when she is "torn between two hands!"

Quiltguru,
Glad to see another Mary Chapin fan.

luckysmom, loved your Parents' after Decisions ("When Will I.....?)
and a big yes to 1Down: Remember this, students: The couplet of the song is "You Can't Always Get What You Want.....But You Can Sometimes Get What You Need!)

(Or did I mangle that, too?)
