*** The AP European History Practice Thread ***

Here’s an easy one (comes from an actual APEURO test):

  1. Which of the following best characterizes Renaissance humanists?
    (A) They rejected Christian perspectives.
    (B) They concentrated on the study of humans from a biological perspective.
    (C) They rejected writers from the pre-Christian period.
    (D) They emphasized rhetoric based on classical models.
    (E) They maintained the principles of medieval Scholasticism.

I say that the answer is D.

Does anyone have any detailed outlines or know where I can get some? I don’t really want to buy a review book but…

Crash Course–a review book that I bought because of dark knight’s wonderful analysis–is organized as detailed outline notes.

Outline according to McKay textbook: [AP Euro McKay Outline](http://www.scribd.com/doc/6532/AP-Euro-McKay-Outline)

I believe that the answer is D. I’m bound to get one of these right sometime in the near future.

Is Crash Course a lot more useful than just a regular outline? Does it make things easy to understand and stuff like that? lol

Doesn’t look like anyone else is going to answer, so yes the answer is D.

okay, that’s what I thought as well… It would be great if we could keep posting questions from actual tests :)

^I would do that, but I’m trying to save the whole test to take in one sitting later, so I’m hesitant of looking at any more questions right now.

lol alright… just, as soon as your done, don’t forget all of us stranded over here on the APEH Practice Thread

Okay, back to questioning:
The Kruger Telegram was sent by _______ to congratulate _______.

dumbfounded look. Someone in Germany definitely, but other than that I have NO clue. Wow…

I’m so guessing.

The Kruger Telegram was sent by England to congratulate U.S.

I’m guessing that the Kruger Telegram was sent by France to congratulate the US.

I have no idea. If this shows up on the 2010 exam, I will be ecstatic, since I’ll know the answer from this thread.

I just checked. I am WAY off.

well, times up :frowning: the answer is that Kaiser Wilhelm II sent this to congratulate the Transvaal Republic (Afrikaner republic in British occupied So. Africa) for defeating a British army in 1896. This heightened the tension between Germany and England (England thought Germany was trying to extend its sphere of influence) and helped lead to WWI. May or may not show up… it has popped up once or twice in my textbooks and review books.

Like I said, I guessed and so i was way off.

Describe the decline of power of Spanish monarch Philip II.

We should have a new rule to be, you must post a new question if you answer a previous one. Also, it would be better if the questions are MC, rather than short answer, to mimic the APEURO test as much as possible.

Moar questions!!!

Phillip II? Who??
Phillip II was defeated by William of Orange of the Netherlands, and thus lost this colonial possession. He also was defeated by the English Queen Elizabeth I against his Spanish Armada, and showed that Spain, which had once been a great Catholic power, was declining.

Calvinist opposition to Spanish rule in the Netherlands during the 1600s took all the forms EXCEPT:

A) Destruction of religious images in Roman Catholic churches.
B) Increased efforts to convert people to Protestantism
C) Attempts to assasinate Phillip II
D) Demonstrations against the executions of heretics
E) Civil war between Roman Catholics and Protestants

How are you guys planning to study for this?

I’m going to read PR 4 times and take 3-4 practice exams. I may also so do some of the 500 REA questions I have.

C) I think the Calvinists in the Netherlands were reasonable enough to know that it was impossible to kill Philip II, who sat in his comfy throne in Spain.

My studying method: read the McKay textbook and finish my personal vocabulary list and then read AP Achiever and Crash Course the week before the exam.
