<p>Reagan wanted to support the Contras in Nicaragua because the Soviets backed the other side of the civil war there. People were critical when it seemed that this ordeal would turn into another Vietnam. Reagan sold arms to Iran, even though public opinion on Iran was pretty low, and used the profits to buy weapons for the Contras. Then he went and said he didn't know the weapons were being sent to Iran-go figure.</p>

<p>lol...dang I can't believe i missed it. the problem is that the phrase through me off. In the actual case, the King granted the contract and not the state, so I didnt believe it was Darthmouth vs. Woodward. darn.</p>

<p>not sure.....but he supplied arms to rebels in Afghanistan to combat the Soviets, as would be dictated by containment policy and the Eisenhower Doctrine</p>
