A: OPEC?!?!?!

I'm so screwed.

^Yeah. It might be OPEC

Q: During the Civil War, why did the South think that the British would support them?

A: KING COTTON. Britain was a huge importer of southern cotton, and therefore the south (irrationally) thought that the British would come to their aid.

On a related note:

Q: What is meant by the nullification crisis faced by Andrew Jackson and how did it reflect the nation's division during that time period?

John C. Calhoun reintroduced the idea of nullification (ie. if a state has sufficient approval, it can declare a Congressional act null and void) during Jackson's presidency. I believe this was done in response to the high tariffs.

It reflected the division between the industrial North and the agricultural South.

Hmm, OPEC influenced oil prices in the U.S. during Ford, but I thought it was established during the Eisenhower administration...

Well, I'll ask a new Q, I guess. What were the political, military, and economic advantages/disadvantages for both the Union and the Confederacy during the Civil War?

Union advantages:
-$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
-Lots of inudstry
-Lots of people
-After the Emancipation Proclaimation, became a moral cause
-Lots of railroads/transportation
-Foreign aid
-Willing to fight a war or BRUTAL ATTRITION

Union Disadvantages:
-Soldiers didn't understand why they were fighting the war
-Offensive war

Confederacy Advantages:
-They were fighting a defensive war.

Confederacy Disadvantages:
-No transportation
-No industry
-Wealth held mostly in real estate: couldn't buy weapons
-Britain stopped buying cotton from them: contributing to no $$$$$
-No $$$$$$
-Fewer people
-Slave economy then slaves ran away

who was maneul noriega

The dictator of Panama that allowed Columbians to traffick cocaine and store their drug money there. He was indicted by a grand jury in FL and was sentenced to 40 years in jail. Parole was denied to him in 02.

Because no one is asking a question:L Whose slogan was "Every Man a King" and what was the slogan in reference to?

A: Huey Long's campaign slogan??

yes and he wanted to tax the wealthy to get every US family $5,000

OPEC was organized during Ford's presidency...'74 i think

for civil war, don't forget that the Union had crappy leaders and the Confederacy had good military leaders.

and confederates knew the terrain

What was the House of Burgesses and why did it come into existence?

The House of Burgesses was the first semblance of a representative assembly, formed in 1619 in Jamestown. In a time where the colony was struggling to manage, colonists formed the House in an effort to make local British-appointed government more responsive to their demands.

Q: How could Jefferson's election be characterized as the "revolution of 1820"?

Wait, huh? I thought Jefferson was elected in 1800?

He was....iprovethesilence means Revolution of 1800. It was called the revolution of 1800 because power changed hands, from Adams to Jefferson, and from the federalist party to the republican party, without bloodshed. Note that this has never happened ever.

The closest thing to it ever happening is the Glorious Revolution in England
