The average SAT I composite score on CC

keep it coming :)

1465.3 + (1350-1465.3)/33 = 1461.806061

yah I don't want to screw the average with 1340 so you're right =) In a way the higher scoring students will report. Just like those salary surveys hehe

I like screwing up the average with my mediocrity. :D

Okay, I am finished with the basic applet that calculates the average. three class files and one txt file. nspeds, if you are still awake, could you please host it so it to make this process easier? Someone already made a mistake early on, and when I entered all the data into the program, the correct average is not the one we have in this thread. Anyway since I opted for the simplest way of output possible (txt file), you may have to tinker with applet permissions to get the applet to read and write the file.

1461.8 + (1410-1461.8)/34 = 1460.28

"on another note, this thread is extremely stupid, as only people with moderately high sat scores post, and most of the ones that didn't do so well won't post as well as it is not mandatory to do so"

what are you talkin about man, I posted my 1110.

HEYYY I need to bring the average down.
1460.28 + (1430-1460.28)/35 = 1459.41

1459.41 + (1450 - 1459.41)/36 = 1459.15

RBase, you're alone. The most of low-scorers wouldn't like to post their SATs. It is absolutely common.

Does CC allow posting images?
You could easily make a PHP script that will write the average into a picture file...

1459.15 + (1580 - 1459.15)/37 = 1462.42

EDIT: Nope....no images allowed.

1462.42 + (1470 - 1462.42)/38 = 1462.62

I agree with Juzam: The "survey" is skewed in that in most cases, only high scoring students will post. In addition, there are far many more lurkers than posters on CC. This thread is no exception. Presumably the lurkers are more likely to be people whose stats are not sky high and whose college aspirations aren't toward acceptance to the most competitive colleges. People also are likely to try to make a good impression, and that may lead to people's posting false high scores.

I don't understand why...the internet is fairly anonymous

Northstarmom,

I do not think the purpose of this thread is to convey an accurate projection of average scores; one always sacrifices accuracy at the moment they post such a mechanism online. However, this does give a semblance of the average SAT score, which is a sufficient reason for having this thread exist.

I agree with Spanks's point. Except for hazelorb, I don't know ANYONE on these boards personally, so I have nothing to lose when I post my measly 1350 (btw, the people in my kind of low track 3 math class thought that was amazing, lol :) ) I mean, it's not like the cc'ers will look at me strange or make fun of me for it or anything.

Someone who's too insecure to post their SAT score on an anonymous internet messageboard really has some psychological hang-ups to take care of.

"However, this does give a semblance of the average SAT score, which is a sufficient reason for having this thread exist"

I don't think it gives a semblance of the average SAT score at all. In fact, I think the results are as skewed as they were when Truman "lost" the presidency because the media's voter surveys only surveyed people who had telephones.

In addition, apparently it's the norm to be too insecure to post on message boards. All message boards that I have seen that track lurkers find that far more people lurk than post.

One of the first things you learn in Statistics: voluntary response surveys are usually the most inaccurate.

That doesn't mean it's not interesting to see the "average", though. And since when do threads have to have a reason to exist? Does anyone remember the "OR" game?
