The "Bag A Week" Club

Hey, if you don’t post it, then I don’t know it!!

My big personal victory: I finally three away two big furniture projects I always intended to work on but for the past 20 years never got around to.

Speaking of victory, my 15 yard dumpster just arrived!!! No more bag a week!

Re books, several years ago we were at an open house for a graduation and our boys were looking around, kind of bored and found his Goosebumps books. They asked the mom if they could borrow some, and she said, “Keep them!” The graduate looked kind of horrified and his mom said, “What, you were going to come home from college and read Goosebumps!”

I really came on here to say that I am getting rid of all my summer shoes that don’t look good, don’t feel good and are out of style. I have a big bag full.

I can’t take all the credit but 10 bags of expired non-perishable food are out of my relative’s hoarding house so yippee! (circa 1989 and slightly more recent)

19…89?! Wow! That’s awesome!

we just cleaned and cleared the garage and donated to habitat restore. also 5 garbage cans per week for 4 weeks to the garbage. the house is on its way to gorgeous.

Two bags ready. Was on vacation so need to get back on the program. Tossed a pair of shoes I like but have not worn in 6 years.

I finally got thru tax files. all patient files discarded if more than 7 years old. Kept final copies of testing. I now have enough empty plastic containers to last my lifetime. Next step is to arrange for a pick up. I keep procrastinating that.

I cleaned out my car and got rid of a bag of stuff- mostly junk that I don’t need to be hauling around in the car all the time.

Packed 2 bags full of children’s books to “donate” to a friend tomorrow.

Today I tossed a pair of perfectly fine shoes into the donation bin when I realized, despite being perfectly comfy and kind of spendy, I hate the way they look and never actually leave the house in them.

2 more bags of old clothes are ready to be taken to the donation bin. Making some progress! :)

I took two bags today. I’m going to have to do that for a few weeks to catch up!

Good for everyone! 1/2 bag today.

I missed last week’s trash pick-up since we had houseguests. So this week I had the regular garbage + 11 contractor’s bags + 6 boxes–but only one box to go to Goodwill. In the current stratum of household archaeology, there is not much that would be of use to anyone, unless someone was compiling “Compleat Household Inventories of the Middle Class in the Late Twentieth Century U.S.” (including such things as copies of faculty-meeting minutes from 1992 and 5 printed drafts of 10th grade papers).

I have been meaning to locate my set of clutter-clearing books, and post the titles for your amusement. True, they are really just another source of clutter; but I am not getting rid of them till this clearing project is done.

Thanks (sincerely) to someone upthread, my mantra for self-encouragement is, “I won’t really see the effects until the third dumpster worth of stuff!”

I can happily report that after filling that dumpster 3 times, we were able to visit the hoarder house (all family members in town for a reunion of sorts) and there were 8 seats in the family room (that is the room I cleaned left to right, top to bottom, front to back) where people could sit and chat while my relative gathered some additional belongings from her bedroom. It’s been a while since I was there and I was even surprised myself by how good that one room looks. I think for the first time I thought - wow- I can do this! (haha, it will still take forever since I work full-time and live far away…) Keep up the great work QM!! I have a little of that “household inventory” stuff to get rid of too! Oh, and 8 bags of old old old boxed food was removed from hh so more progress!!

Just coming here for some inspiration. Been in England for nearly 3 weeks and need to get back in the program. Must admit, returning home to the clutter is a bit overwhelming. It is so nice to walk into the one room I have done (bathroom) so hope that and you guys will inspire me come the weekend.

Swimcatsmom…pick the next smallest room and do that one!

Welcome back!

Here is a place to donate your clothes and you can get a gift card in return from Nordstrom, haven’t done it yet but read about in another forum and sounds very easy
