The "Bag A Week" Club

DH decided to get into the action and cleaned out that little room under the laundry room that had not seen the light of day in a very long time. Some very old paint and stain went out to disposal site and a lot of trash out to the curb. One small room down. A lot of basement to go. But he decided he will tackle the basement as his contribution.

Katvis, thanks for that tip. It looks like a very worthwhile way to get rid of things and get a Nordstrumā€™s gift card for them!!

Mr B tossed a box of old Kaspersky and Norton CDs dating back ten or so years!! I found some test prep books to dispose ofā€¦ A 25-yr old GRE prep book might qualify as an antique, but I threw it into the recycle bin anyway.

I took a bag from DSā€™ s room to Goodwill. I had to make myself not go through it.

H purged a large crate of old electronic plugs and such. Even he was surprised at the age and worthlessness of this stuff. So happy he seems to be willing to at least address some things.

S tossed several shirts. I dug one out and saved it for myself. It was a Gap shirt he had never worn and it is a nice, heavy flannel with velcro pockets that will be perfect for me in cooler travel.

H is finally tossing things from the carport that have been there for literally decades!

Manā€¦ I found a stash of old cell phones and charges! One of them dated back to 1999! Gone.

I cannot believe the blue Northwest center bin is gone! Now I have to look for a Goodwill collection van.

Cell phones can often be donated to cell phone companies for domestic violence folks. BestBuy also takes all kinds of electronics, including batteries, old laptops, desktops, you name it.

H has decided HE wants the shirt I salvaged from the donations pile S gave me. It fits him better and he loves the heavy khaki materialā€“great new travel shirt for him. Will keep him cozy on the airplane. :)

I canā€™t believe I missed this thread! Somehow I thought it was about people who really like designer handbags  Iā€™m bookmarking it!

Iā€™d have to be Paris Hilton to be able to afford a designer bag a week, saintfan! Too funny.

Joining in again. Time to work on the front closet. Where are the house elves when they are really needed?

Even if I had Paris Hitonā€™s purse budget, I could not come up with enough style/color combos I like to be able to buy 52 bags a year! :D

Well, Iā€™ve got purses that are GOING! Renewing my efforts this week!

@saintfan, lol. Got rid of four purses last week. Then bought four more at Vera Brady side walk sale past weekend. At least they are for DD.

I too got rid of 6 purses, 4 clutches and 3 wallets. Really, how many do you need. I have a lot left. I had to convince myslef it didnā€™t matter how ā€œgoodā€ they were if I was not using them.

HImomā€¦the deal on OUR house is if you fish something OUT of the donation bag, you have to put TWO things in it. Soā€¦your husband needs to pitch two shirts. My bet is he has many more than two he can pitch.

Iā€™m away this week, but my DH is getting rid of every shirt that has even a hint of ring around the collar.

thumper1 ā€“ I like your math! Iā€™ve been insisting on 1-for-1 on books coming into the house, but I think both my H and my D cheat!

I have a box almost ready to go - baskets mainly and some wacky socks. I have a half bag of clothes but I could probably make it full and maybe add a second by Friday.

ahh - back on CC after a long absence - and THIS is the thread I come back to - very timely! Just this morning my sister and I were talking about how we were going to turn into the Collyer brothers if we didnā€™t start clearing out. FWIW, I dropped off a big bag of clothes and shoes at our local thrift today, and left with only two new bathmats (for my son - always welcome in their apartment). The trick is to always leave with a lot less than you went in with.

We have a drive through drop off lane at the Goodwill so itā€™s relatively risk free

Our Salvation Army has a drive through too. Great for drop and go. No temptations.
