hey i'm going to the 1st orientation session. therefore, i have 1st priority of picking classes. which classes are the most popular that i should take before "everyone else" does? which freshman classes do you recommend for a pre-med and an english major?

basically i want to know
-most common freshman classes
-most useful classes for what i want to study
-ideal schedule for freshmen

thanks

Educ 92F is something every freshman should take

I'm not a science type and want to take the 60's cluster. Someone told me I should get my science out of the way by taking one of the science clusters. Can someone advise?

Hi! I'm going to be a second-year at UCLA. I would definitely recommend taking a cluster. Since it's a year long course, you definitely develop a sense of community that other, 10-week long courses don't offer. I took the Cosmos (70-series) cluster. I thought it would be extremely hard - I like science, but I am by no means a science type. In actuality, as long as you do the reading and attend lecture, the class was not difficult at all. There is no math involved (maybe one short formula to memorize the whole year). The professors are all AWESOME!! Especially Morris and Moldwin. The professors and TAs all have lunch with students once a week in the dining hall, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and just get to know them. TAs are all really cool and laid back. The class went on field trips, one weekend long trip to western Nevada to collect fossils, one to the San Andreas fault and Hubble observatory (awesome), and one to the La Brea tar pits. So for the first two quarters you take normal lecture classes w/ lab, and we learned about astrophysics, cosmology, the solar system, evolution, geology (ehh this part was kind of boring), etc. The third quarter you get to choose a seminar from the list (half in life sci, half in physical sci). I took the Physics of Time Travel (!!!). It was really great. I was getting around a C average from the quizzes but came out with an A in the end. Seminars are supposed to be fun and relaxed. Other topics were mammoths, environmentalism, waves (sound and light), the brain, human colonization of space, etc.

I RECOMMEND THE COSMOS CLUSTER 500 TIMES! Also you get lots of honors credit and priority passes for the year.

If you are not the science type and plan on doing a north campus (humanities) major, do not take the 60's cluster. I think it would be a waste of time (redundant classes/GEs) unless you are extremely interested in the subject.

wut about the cluster about los angeles????????
