Well my first year here at Berkeley is almost over and I thought I would reccomend some awesome classes for all the incoming freshmen:

MCB 61: Brain, Body, and Behavoir or MCB 62: Effects of Drugs on the Brain
Dr. Presti teaches both of these amazing classes. If you are a science major (or even a non-science major) take these classes with Presti. All the lectures are extremely well organized and he brings a lot of energy to his lectures. This class will literally blow your mind.

Astro 10: Introduction to Astronomy
Only take this class with professor Filippenko. HE’S THE BEST PROFESSOR YOU’RE EVER GOING TO HAVE. I assure you that after you take this class you will want to change your major to astrophysics. He wrote the textbook for this course and everyone of his lectures will inspire you to learn more about the subject. A MUST TAKE BEFORE YOU GRADUATE FROM CAL.

I would recommend one of Dundes' folklore class, unfortunately, he just passed away. It's a tragic loss for the university. :(

Astro 10 with Filipenko is phenomenal, and if you can, take Anthro 2 with Lightfoot. Any class with Kathy Moran, if you can deal with her intensity and energy, (American Studies 10/110 usually) will undoubtedly be excellent as well. Take Philosophy 7 with Dreyfus is you can. It is absolutely fantastic and you will learn more about the nature of human existence than you ever thought possible. It really is the path to enlightenment. Also, if you are linguistically inclined, take at least Germans 1-4, they are easy and your English writing actually improves drastically, not to mention we have the #1 German Dept. in the country.

Anything else I can recommend... I wish Lael Gold was still here, she was a GREAT teacher. Comp Lit 60AC was fantastic, especially if you wanted to learn how Jews, Blacks, Asians, and other minorities learned to deal with the stresses of America through humor. Film 25A is great if you are into film and enjoy learning about hte history, and can stand the sometimes quirky B&W Silent films.
