I've been wondering....since most for-profit schools have a negative reputation as diploma mills or scams, are there ANY that have a good reputation, even in niche circles?

There’s a difference between having a less-than-stellar reputation and being a diploma mill. Diploma mills are where you just pay for the degree and that’s that - no work. Proprietaries like U Phoenix etc. are not diploma mills. Some people might take issue with the way they are run or how they recruit students or their course delivery, but you’re going to have to earn those degrees.

A lot of the proprietaries exist for non-traditional students who are attracted to particular programs, schedules, course delivery mechanisms, etc. Those students have clearly voted with their pocketbooks…

I know a couple of people who went through Devry and it worked well for them.

There was a Frontline documentary about for-profit schools. I’d highly recommend it.

Personally, I’d rather go to a community college than a for-profit school.
