THE book to read before posting any questions

I have just finished a hectic year of applying for arch school, and I have only one regret: Not reading Roger Lewis's Archictect? A Candid Guide to the Profession.

It has answers to a ton of the questions that people ask around here and is not an expensive book (compared to 5, 6 or 7 years of college). This book will prepare you to apply bu answering questions like: what are the kinds of architectural degrees I can pursue.

Published by MIT this book will inform and help you on this long path to choosing where to attend next May. I have now finished the book, but wish that I had in November. I may not have been a better applicant, but i would have been a smarter one!

on the same note, the book “Becoming an Architect” by Waldrep is extremely helpful. I agree with futurearchitect7 that doing a lot of research can really save some confusion. Plus, do it now (meaning the summer), because as mostly all seniors can attest to, things start to fly and deadlines seem to be right around the corner once school begins.

Good luck to all!

My son used “Becoming an Architect”, ACSA Guide to Architecture Schools, and found an architect whotold him his view of various schools (good, very good, excellent, technical, theoretical). That helped him to make an initial list of 11 schools which he narrowed to 4 schools.
