The CAS Honors Program

I've lately been considering applying to Howard this fall for the Class of 2015, and after some research I realized that I have a great shot at being accepted into the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program. I have some questions about it:

**Is there a separate application for the Honors Program, would I have to specify on the regular application that I want to be considered, or are all applicants automatically considered for it?

If the Honors Program was an independent college, which colleges/universities would it be comparable to?

How does majoring work out for Honors Program students? I plan on being a French/history or French/international relations double major, so how would I fulfill those major requirements while being apart of the Honors Program?

Would I be eligible for scholarships if I gain entrance into the Honors Program?

Independent Research Under the Guidance of Faculty Mentors - How much guidance does this entail, what kind of guidance would it be, and what exactly is expected for this research project?**

I am very independent with my work and I undertake and complete it well. For instance, my world history teacher assigned his three world history classes (a total of 33 students, about 11 in each section) a research paper focused on genocide. Not only was I one of the few students to turn the paper in on time (others had procrastinated), but I had written a solid 15 pages to the required seven, and nobody else wrote more than eight. I was also the only student to receive an A on the first try (a perfect 100/100; my teacher allowed those who received low marks to rewrite the paper) and not to ask for extra help in any form or participate in the pre-research exercises. I don't wish to be coddled or handheld, especially in college.
