We applied for the 7th grade in 2022-203 Harvard-Westlake, still waiting for the decision notice, we are a little nervous too.
- All A’s for 4th/5th/6th (first semester)
- ISEE, all 9’s and all > 98%
- Math Award from School District and Math Competition Award from School District
- No FA
- Some other extracurricular activities (Club/solid level AAA baseball player, but who knows it will be counted or not )
Thanks for your input and opinion

It looks like our case is a rare case since the application is for 7th grade.
We are not sure how much the baseball performance will help for a 6th grade student although he plays in the solid club level team. He still has his national chess ranking under 13 years old which he earned when he was 9 , Visual Art, he is still highly active in drawing (oil painting, etc.), but no competition because of baseball and Covid, although he got an award in the City’s Visual Art Contest in K-4 Divion (4th out of 200 attendants).
The interviews went very well, all the schools showed strong interest in how he can manage his time in school when he spends 12-16 hours a week in baseball, I guess they read his school performance and ISEE result too.
Simply curious about our chance.
He has a very good chance.

Just quickly updated about our application, he was put on the waitlist by Harvard-Westlake, but got admission acceptances to The Polytechnic School and Flintridge Prep. It was a little disappointing since HW has been his dream school and he had been working extremely hard in school and ECs.

Not sure if any family once had the experience with the waitlist by Harvard-Westlake? it appears that this year it is almost impossible to get off waitlist.
Although year 2022 it is very competitive for any “top” school, we hope the “race” was not the factor he got to the waitlist, perfect ISEE score 9/9/9/9 (99%, 98%, 98%, 99%) for just the first and only one test, I believe very few applicants can achieve this performance, with that his grade level placement test was in the end of 9th grade (Math and English were tested out in school standardized test), player in solid AAA/Major baseball club who can really hit against any good team from all over the country.
But anyway, we are so blessed and thankful that the Prep and the other elite school gave him acceptances, good luck to all the applicants to their dream school.
Not sure what you mean by “the ‘race’” here, but you should be delighted your child was accepted to Prep and Poly, both excellent schools. Our son applied to the same three schools (for 9th) with the same ISEE scores. He was accepted to HW and Prep, WL at Poly (I was somewhat partial to Prep, in any case). It’s impossible to know what calculus is used to admit students. My unsolicited advice: you have great choices, be happy for your (clearly very bright and talented) child.

Sorry for confusion, I did not mean “racial” caused the WL, we never thought that with any school admission, we were also thankful and appreciative to HW who gave us the opportunity to show the young man.
Absolutely we are happy and proud of the kiddo.
