Hey all,
I was wondering how good really the chemical engineering department really is...how are the profs like?are they indifferent towards undergrads coz they do so much research?how about undergrad research oportunities?

Professors know what they’re talking about and the curriculum is pretty tough, but overall the department is great. The profs are absolutely NOT indifferent towards undergrads. I’ve gone out to lunch and played raquetball with my physics prof. As long as you go talk to your profs, many will know you by name.

Many undergrads can help out with their prof’s research as some sort of lab tech, or even do research of their own. There is a program called UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) that anyone can apply for. In this program, you can get up to $1700 to do whatever research you want.

-current U MN Chem E major

excellent!the program is ranked 3rd is it not?So I would assume that many people make it to MIT,Berkeley,Caltech etc for grad school?

pretty much. if you can maintain decent grades, pretty much any grad school is an option
and yes, we’re ranked 3rd for chem E. there’s talk around campus of how we have the hardest curriculum too.

sweet…!im looking forward to joining ya’ll!:D

Hey Gopher–is there any way I could get in touch with you…?If you dont mind that is.
