The Class of 2025 -- Sharing, Venting, Discussing! MT

Random question:
Does anyone know which schools might offer BFA MT students the elective of “acting for film”? I saw that PACE does and assumed many other programs would as well. I do not see it at Point Park, Millikin, or Emerson. I had no idea this would be an unusual elective. Am I missing the obvious?

Me too🙁

i guess it’s good to know sooner rather than later but i hope any other waitlists move in the right direction!!!

Rider offers several acting for film electives.

Emerson does have a class that’s Acting for Film and Television (PA334), and it doesn’t say that it’s restricted to T&P, so a MT can probably take it.

(and yes, I pulled out my spreadsheet for that, lol! :joy:)

@MT25mom OMG, my son (aged 2) screamed “that’s my mommy!” at my PhD graduation! He was my dissertation baby, so everyone in the department knew him and loved it.

With regard to acting for film courses, I think you need to examine the curriculum for each program. People mentioned two programs, Rider and Emerson, that offer it. Also, at NYU/Tisch, there is the option of doing the advanced studio at Stonestreet Studio (acting for the screen) in junior or senior years.

I would like info on the New School too… my D was accepted and is considering above other MT schools (LIU, Manhattanville, and UofB) because of location - thoughts? We are also on NYU waitlist from ED but we know we have to put a deposit down somewhere

Crickets from Miami! We have heard sometime this week and then we have also heard April 1.

Yeah, that Carnegie email was yuck, but it was kind of them to let us know when they did, as hard as it was to hear. Some waitlist no’s would be kind about now too, if that’s where they’re headed. I don’t think I can take this into May, June or July! Praying the visits will convince her to let the waitlists go. Looking forward to hearing her say, “I know now where I want to go” so we can enjoy the spring & summer with her at home.

Hearing from Miami that spring break is wild! (Sorry! Just trying a little levity - not working? No?) Guessing it’ll be later this week. They usually don’t go all the way to April 1, although that’s their official story. Watch their admissions Twitter acct.

Haha. Thx for the levity!!!

I’m not sure how to DM the person requesting information about Buffalo? You should ask about if they cut 90% Funding the MT Department and have said they are doing Fall production on Zoom. MT students are not happy.

Yikes! Thats interesting. Might be why we have had no contact other than the acceptance. It has been hard to get/find information on their program(Buffalo)

Thanks for the information - had not heard this at all. Will continue to ask more questions?

The irony is that the University of Miami cancelled their Spring Break this year to limit Covid spread.

When my son auditioned for Carnegie Melon in 2017, one of the auditioners spent a few minutes to tell him he was “very talented” and “will get into a good program.” She made it clear she wasn’t saying that he would or would not get an offer from CMU (he did not) but she was very encouraging. Given the number of auditions they watch during the day, I doubt that is happening with every person seen. And I don’t think it’s “code” for anything more than what it is: a sincere compliment to the performer.

I am glad your son had that experience. BTW. I contacted the university and there is a lot more to the story. Hopefully, they will clear it up and things will be fine.
