Anyone facing the same choice? I know if I had applied to Wharton it would be a different story, but as it is, weighing academics, social atmosphere, environment, costs, prestige… is anyone facing the same choice?

I got the full-tuition scholarship to USC so I'm going there over Penn, if that's any help. If you're in state, I'd say go to UCLA. If not, you'd be spending nearly as much to go to UCLA as Penn, so I'd go for Penn.

A friend of mine is (and I would be had I not applied ED). He's definitely going to Penn. I would do the same if I were him or you, but, honestly, go where you feel comfortable. I loved UCLA when I took classes classes there over the summer (the vice-chair of the physics department really wanted me to attend so he showed me all this cool stuff and extended how long my bruin card was valid for).

i live about two hours from UCLA, will visit Upenn next week

Is the college of arts and sciences at Upenn comparable to UCLA? is the 43k price tag worth it? how prestigious is the college compared to UCLA?

of course it's comparable. if i had to compare prestigiousness, i'd say that penn wins hands down, however prestige isn't going to get you your first high paying job (in most fields) and you won't do yourself wrong no matter where you choose, UCLA or Penn.

i would go to penn over UCLA without hesitation, but I loved UCLA when i took classes there and just because I'd do it doesn't mean you should.

Woe---here in the east, and esp. from Ivies, prestige is precisely what gets you your first job.
