@ acceptmecal: Oh man. Thank god I’m not alone here. I really appreciate that you responded. I’ve been so down for the past few days. I’m so sorry you were rejected, but I’m glad that at least we’re both kinda going through the same thing. It seems like you and I are in the EXACT same situation!

I’m in at Davis and SD as well. I think I’m leaning to Davis (pending UCLA appeal falls through and UCB rejects me).

Cal is my dream school. Always has been, and always will be lol. I liked UCLA quite a bit though, and would’ve been really happy to go there if I don’t get into Cal. I have a 3.74 as a psych major to UCLA - prereqs done, all A’s…but did’;t get in :'(.

I applied to Cal as a philosophy major, but I, like you, have none of the prereqs done. Obviously this is due to having them not offered anywhere near me, but after seeing so many UCLA rejects due to lack of prereqs (even those not offered) I’ve suddenly become deeply distressed about Berkeley.

I honestly have no idea why I didn’t get into UCLA except that psych is impacted. 3.74 is still right where most accepted students are for the major though :/. Anyway, I’m just hoping for Cal now.

I’m with you on this, and I truly hope things work out for us for UCB. Keep in touch, please! lol. This week has already been agonizing for me :/.

I too could not complete any of the philosophy prereqs, and for the same reason. I have looked into this a bunch though, and i understand that MOST schools don’t offer courses that articulate. Seriously, go to assist, and look at the articulation agreements for a bunch of random schools for philosophy.

I looked at the first 68 junior colleges (it’s alphabetical so it should be roughly random) and this is what I found

Colleges who had 0/3 prereqs: 60
Colleges who had 1or2/3 reqs: 7
Colleges that had all prereqs: 1

Even if berkeley does like it if you have all the prereqs completed, there is simply no way that even MOST of the philosophy transfer students will have ANY prereqs done. This, combined with the fact that philosophy has THE HIGHEST acceptance rate for any of the majors in statfinder (57% last year) makes me think that completing all the prereqs is really not that big a deal for philosophy.

Now one might object that my data are misleading because it includes a bunch of small schools and big schools. And the bigger schools are likely to have both more people, and be the ones that offer at least some prereqs. So the % of philosophy transfers who actually have access to the prereqs is bigger than the % of community colleges that do. I’d say this is probably the case, but still doesn’t make much of a difference at all. And i saw plenty of big ccc’s which didn’t have any course articulate.

Oh, and i got accepted to UCLA phil with only half the prereqs. Granted I have a 3.9, but many people with high GPAs got rejected because of lack of prereqs for other majors, which tells me that phil prereqs aren’t as important.

That said, and with your GPA, you have a really good chance of getting into Berkeley philosophy

^Same here. I hate my job, but I’m relishing the fact that I work for the next five days straight.

Not so excited about working until 5pm on Friday though. Hopefully if I beg and plead enough, they’ll send me home early so that I stop annoying them.

After hearing that Cal would release their transfer decisions May 30th, my English professor told us it was a lie and that for the past however many years Cal has released their decisions the Monday after UCLA. I want to believe him so much, but on the other hand I know it’s most likely a sick tease…
