I just read it--absolutely fascinated! Anyone else here read it? Any thoughts?

I read it 1.5 months ago. I got tired of reading 'Harvard' every other page. I liked the book in the beginning but it got really boring and things just became dull. There was no character development and some instances seemed really stretched/drawn out. I liked learning about the art and other historical aspects but I didn't really care about the characters.

I agree with Crayon

IMO Angels and Demons is the best of Dan Brown's books

I haven't read Angels and Demons, but I plan to. I really, really liked the Da Vinci Code though. Maybe because I find the subject matter really interesting.

Da Vinci Code is THE BEST book by Dan Brown. His "Deception point" and "Digital fotress" were good too. I liked them because they were fast novels.

i think angels and demons was less believable than the da vinci code (of course, both are wonderfully far-fetched). The timespan it took place in was even shorter than that of da vinci code. Also, the character development problem that crayon mentioned is more severe in this book, with characters being described in cringe-inducing terms seemingly worthy of trashy romance novels. and oh god the last line of that book was AWFUL, and did not leave a good last impression. haha. not great literature per se, but very fun and frivolous reading.

Notice how both Angels and Demons and the Da Vinca Code start off with Langdon waking up in the night and getting called about a dead man. Then he meets a hot chick and starts a detective chase together. And at the end they kiss...seems a little too formulaic for me. Oh yeah, that Langdon dude is described to be a lot like Dan Brown himself. Hot chicks indeed...

for those who liked the da Vinci code consider taking an art history class at a local community college or if your high school offers it, take A.P. Art History.

It reminded me of a poor imitation of Uberto Eco, who does this type of book better. I found myself a few pages ahead of our hero a few to many times, something that's rare for me. It's not too bad if you don't take it too seriously.

Anyone else read about the mock trial they held for the Da Vinci Code in Rome recently?

Uberto Eco wrote The Letter of the Rose, which I would agree with Strick11 is much better than the da Vinci code. Btw they have it on video for those lazy slops who don't want to read the book.

yes, both the da vinci code and angels and demons follow the same general formula. many interesting religious implications in both books (i wont bring them up now). overall good books, but read the da vinci code first.

If I wrote that book for class, I would have gotten a D on historical accuracy. An A or A- on style thought, I must admit that I spent an enjoyable afternoon or two reading The Da Vinci Code.

I really liked both the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. The one thing I didn't like, however, was that Dan Brown put a little thing at the beginning of Da Vinci code saying that the information of paintings and other artwork, etc. is historically correct, which is completely untrue. It's a very misleading statement.

exactly same plot formulas ERGH but i liked angels and demons better (i read it 2nd)

Its not the Letter of the Rose! Its the Name of the Rose!

One of my personal favourites but not precisely what you would call light reading which is what The Da Vinci Code is

What do you guys think about the ideas the Da Vinci Code brought up? What do you agree and not agree with?
