The Dangers of ignoring the Math Section...

My friend is taking the SAT for the 1st time in May. She plans on pretty much ignoring the Math section and focusing on Writing and Reading. I tried to tell her that it's probably not a wise decision, but she insists that the schools that she plans to apply do "super scoring" and that she will take the SAT again and then focus primarily on the Math section.

Is there really any danger in her doing this?

That's a retarded idea.

Your friend is assuming the "focusing" on one part for only one next week will make a significant difference in her score. Probably not.

Yeah. I don't know what she's thinking. :o

Yeah her scores will look retarded.

If she does not have time to prepare for everything, it might work.

Even if the schools she's applying to are superscore-conscious, having a superscore in one sitting would make her a more serious applicant. That's what she should be shooting for.

With me, it's impossible to just blow off something so big even if it didn't matter. I always give it my best because I just feel guilty if I don't. She's not a very serious student is she.

Ok, I talked to her yesterday. I told her it wasn't a good idea. But she told me that she took the SATs in March :s, and got a 710 on the Math section (I didn't even know she took the exam). She said she did poorly on the Writing and CR section so this time she plans on "focusing" on these two areas. She claims that she won't completely blow off the Math sections, but at the same time won't give it a "100%." We'll see. lol.
