My father received a call earlier today from a school rep in my area who wanted to speak with me. I wasn’t home so my father told him to call back at 8.
I don’t want to have an interview, but at the same time I don’t want to come off as rude. What would be an acceptable excuse or reason for not having an interview?
Thanks so much, as you can see i’m a little nervous

Well, what school is this then? Because interviews are looked at differently from school to school. Some schools can't care less if you go, while others (like MIT) frown upon people who do not schedule interviews.

Hm... well I don't want to sound all self-virtuous but usually it's best to tell the truth than make up any excuse. I don't remember Dartmouth emphasizing an interview so it really shouldn't be a problem. Call them back and tell them you love the school and you'd love to talk to them but you have anxiety about that sort of thing. Offer some other ways for them to get to know you. They should understand

I don't know that I'd do that...it might make it sound like you have social anxiety or something, and that's not exactly what they want in an applicant...I would just grin and bear it---do the interview---and you may even be surprised...after all, the alum/rep doing the interview went to the school you really want to go to, so you obviously have something in common.

well kebree, you have to realize that not everyone is born social. There certainly are students who suffer regularly from social anxiety - which is a disorder, to discriminate against those people would be similar to rejecting kids based on a disability. It obviously seems like a serious issue for this student because they are taking medication for it.
