Lights off!
We have people in different time zones, so I guess Earth Hour(Mar.27th, 8.30-9.30pm local time, 2010) will start soon.
(it just started here in China)

Let's just turn off the lights. Earth Hour wants to raise awareness towards climate change, so it's more about what we do and what we talk about during EH.

Did your city/town join the Earth Hour? Any iconic buildings turned their lights off? What did you do?

It’s good China is finally attempting to raise its environmental awareness from within. I have seen nothing about EH in the papers or news here in California. As I write this it is March 27. We are obviously concerned about emissions from China floating across the Pacific and adversely effecting our air.

Earth Hour exists in the USA. How could it be Earth Hour if it did not exist worldwide? There is advertising all over for earth hour, and I plan on reading a book with a candle, or CCing with my laptop powered solely on battery power obtained from electricity consumed the hour before earth hour.

yeah i was gonna shut down everything…until i just read an article saying that its actually bad for the environment if ppl just shut down electricity for one hour and turn it back on…
confused @.@

They say it’s more about what people do in this “hour”. It does raise awareness towards climate change.

Haha it’s so funny that in our textbook, it says everything about US’ CO2 emission. I know we emit the largest amount, but you’ve been doing that for decades!!!

I’m quite offended. Why did you say “finally”? Our president promised that the emission would be down by 40% next year. What did the American government say and do at Copenhagen?! Oh Obama went there after visiting Norway(note sarcasm). The whole country participated in the EH last year. And say the Olympic stadium and some iconic buildings in shanghai turned their lights off. Last year, there were around 20 cities participating and this time—34! And the forbidden city turned their lights off too. And it’s pretty amazing that the lights were off all of a sudden when I was walking in street during EH.

Again, I’m offended. I felt angry when I was in the US. The air-con was on(it’s fall come on), the lights were on, and, they didn’t turn off their laptops/computers. Is this habit nationwide? I don’t know if that consumes a lot of energy, but it’s ridiculous that your computers are on 24/7!

Wow cool! I’m talking from a Chinese perspective:
I live in a city that used to be the capital of China for centuries. (and that’s where Japanese did cruel things to Chinese people) I’ve seen so many palaces(or whatever you call them) HERE, right outside my window(kidding but they’re 10mins away). And I’ve seen too many pictures on TV and have read too many articles in books(about it’s history, structure, etc) So I’d say I wasn’t excited at all the first time I visited Beijing(5 years ago). But the forbidden city was spectacular! It’s huge and has a lot of stories behind(if you’re into history).

And a girl in my class has a crush on an emperor of Qing dynasty(the last dynasty in history) and she’s serious. It’s hilarious to all of us, since normal people don’t like Chinese emperors that much. So…LoL’d at your post!!!(it’s literally a joke now in my class)

I know I’m making no sense(the emperor joke part), so just ignore me lol.

I don’t know what to tell you…but it’s great in general if you’ve never seen anything like that. Be sure to bring your jackets/sweatshirts. It’s really not hot in Beijing. And remember, everywhere us crowded!

Not 2 sound like a creep but when I visit China, wanna meet up sometime?
SSRS sixty second rule really really sucks STILL? ARGHHHHHHHHH SRRS SSRS SSSRS SSRS SSRS SSRS 6 2

Well, amazing in a bad way. I’ve never liked any Chinese emperors(and the leaders now). They just ruined everything and still thought they were smart. They never wanted to change because they were afraid of losing all they had.

Columbus sailed across the Atlantic to find gold. But Chinese sailors(back in Ming Dynasty) went to north Africa to show off. They exchanged goods and mainly it’s about…showing other people how great the Ming Dynasty was.

Yeah the conservative root. I have that too. Proud of it.

Yeah Yeah Yeah!
(but it’s creeeeepy. I’ve never met people online. And for the first time—a 14-year-old foreigner!!!)
Haha I’ll email somnus about that. We can meet that way(cuz I’m really afraid haha)
People have been telling me “don’t trust people on the Internet”“don’t talks to strangers” ever since I was born…

I never said I wasn’t going only that I was a little unsure about it. I mean w/ so many of us it only takes one of us to be a liar for us all to get harmed.

Wait…you’re having a…Boson meetup!!! When? Any threads for that? Who started this?how many are attending?

The best solution is to find a trustworthy ADULT on CC. Well there are a bunch. Maybe they can go? I don’t think it will be a problem. There’re a lot of people so what are you worried about? Safety?
