They make you polish silver for detention, iriseyes?

...lol that's so weird. I've never had detention, but I had always assumed that it was like, sitting in a chair doing homework for an hour or something like that.

Westover sounds really good, as does Miss Porter's and Emma Willard. How does Maderia compare? Is their campus nice?

Maderia was very nice but I remember thinking it wasn't academically as challenging as other schools we looked at. To me the most attractive thing was their internship program (I think they call it something else but I can't remember). I would think that by the time a girl graduated she would have experienced many different career paths.
I also got the impression that many girls went home on weekends. If you are into riding, they have their own stables. The location is wonderful - very near Washington and I think there are lots ofchances to get into the city.

Any idea how to get the name of this thread changed to Girl's Schools?!?!?

I'm currently a junior at Emma Willard, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

Usually detention is an hour on Saturday night, sitting in a room doing homework, but mine was for missing sports practice, so I had an hour of polishing the ceremonial silver. Graduation coming up and all.

the architect of westover was a MPS alumna...I find that ironic....

But yes, they're right, you certainly can't take others' words for it. What looks good on paper can feel totally different in real life. But I'm not sure if you should judge the schools based on their campus, either. You should go to the campus and try to get a feel for the air of it. The pretty shrubs aren't going to guarantee or determine your growth or personal experience.

I agree with you, Iluv A's. But for now i am trying to gather as much information as I can.

i just found this site by accident and it's really cool. I'm thinking of going to EWS, actually I really want to but I also want to know more. I couldn't find that many pictures of living space on EWS website. Could anyone help me out. If anyone goes, went, or knows someone that goes there could you please tell me more about the school. Any info at all is wanted. Thanks.

ive visited the emma willard website...is the school really like it?

In what way?

I haven't been there. But my parents grew up in upstate New York and they say that it is a very beautiful area and that the school is amazing, and that it does look like the pictures only better.

If you mean, does the school "look like" its web pics, the answer is yes and no. It truly is more beautiful in person and walking around the grounds than the pics convey. The grounds people do a fantastic job of keeping this Nat'l Register of Historic Places looking pristine. It sits kind of on top of a hill - Mount Ida - so it also has very lovely views. My d swears the sky is bluer up there than she's used to at home! Go visit...
