I was just watching a thing on the history channel about Bible codes, and how the Bible has hidden messages that predicted the September 11th attacks, the war in Iraq, etc. According to experts, the Bible contains messages that earth will be hit by a comet in 2012 and that will be the end of the world. In addition, I've heard that some astronomers claim that a comet is heading in earths dirction and that if it were to hit us, it would happen around 2012. The program mentioned that, according to the Bible, all the terrorism and fighting currently going on is symbolizing "the end of days" or the beginning of the end of the human race. The chances are of course slim that this will actually happen, as there have been countless theories of the end of the world throughout history, but it still makes you think about how and when it will happen...

has anyone else heard of this, and what do you all think?

Well, according to the Mayan calendar, the world will end on December 21, 2012. Either that, or it'll be the beginning of a new Golden Age, depending on who you believe. In any case, I don't buy it.

"in terms of interstate wars, this is the most peaceful recorded time period in history."

This is very true, and yet, one rarely hears it mentioned. There really has never been a better time to be alive than now. Life for most Westerners is extremely peaceful and comfortable. As far as the 'Bible code' and the end of the world, that History Channel program mentioned far too many fairly trivial events involving the USA. If I remember correctly, they mention the Challenger explosion. Does the Bible really have a secret code that describes every event that ever killed seven or more people? Aside from that, there is always someone screaming about the 'end times.' Wasn't Jesus supposed to return in 1914 according to the Jehova's Witnesses?

"There really has never been a better time to be alive than now."
Eh, at least we'll go out on top. What the heck are we going to college for then gosh.

nah...i don't believe its true. and even if this fairy tale does happen, we'll be dead to realize it...so oh well. if we live, we live. if we die, we die. theres nothing we can do about it.

There is no way a comet would hit in 2012 because it would've been detected at least 20 years ago with the technology currently avalible to us.

And if you count all the wars from the end of the middle ages (often marked as the Turkish capture of Constantinople) to the end of the Cold War and analyze the statistics behind it, the probablity of there NOT being a large scale international war within 2050 is about %0.05. Now that's true evidence of future events, not a stupid calender made many years ago with no way to measure future situations.

Read War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning. I forget who it's by but since recorded history, there has been only 17 years of global peace. 17 YEARS! Humans suck hairy goat nuts. Good thing Im an alien.

But I do believe that we are living in the End Times, as noted by Jesus in Mark 13:7

And when ye shall hear of wars, and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.

For nations shall rise against nations, and kingdoms against kingdoms: and there shall be earthquakes in diverse places, and there shall be famines, and troubles: these are the beginning of sorrows.

Sounds like the world's present condition to me...

The world's end has been predicted numerous times throughout our history, and yet, we're still here. I'm not saying the world can't end at this moment, but that we should all take these predictions with a grain of salt.

i think the most importnat thing people should take from thsi whole "end of the world" business is to live as if the end of the world were comign TOMORROW.

doesn't Jesus say that somehwere in the Bible...eh i don't know what book or anything liek that.
