I was always curious, is there any society at Harvard that would be the equivalent of the Skull and Bones Society at Yale? Like in the sense of being well-known/respected, and as secretive I guess.

The closest thing would probably be the Porc, but to be really honest, the final clubs are VERY, VERY different than the senior societies at Yale. First off, the Porc (and all other FCs) are (currently) male-only, while the senior societies are co-ed. There are a few female FCs but (at least when I was there) they did not have their own spaces. Also, usually people punch for the final clubs in sophomore and junior year; they really function more like really fancy frats (or sororities) than anything else.

S&B is a senior society, along with Wolf’s Head and Scroll and Key and a few others. Each class has around 13-15 people, and quite a few spots are ‘passed down’–from what I hear, some spots are reserved for heads of other prominent campus orgs such as the incoming editor in chief of the Daily or the MD of the Whiffenpoofs or something like that. (Yalies can correct me here on the details).

The senior societies aren’t really that ‘secretive’ anymore and Harvard doesn’t really have anything equivalent. The FCs and the senior societies at Yale both fulfill a social/professional purpose, but they fulfill those functions in very different ways.

Like Wind said you do have Porcellian but its different than Skull & Bones.

??? Most people are scared of the Skull and Bones haha. Respected? Ehh, I wouldn’t say that… Anytime someone influential talks about secret societies they usually get shot (JFK, Lincoln, Tupac, etc…)

Honestly I am sure the Porcellian club is pretty cool too, its really personal preference… Personally though I don’t want to be involved with anything secretive.
