so i was looking through both the princeton review and college board sat books.

and i noticed that they give diff advice on essays... it seems princeton review wants 2 or 3 examples for an essay while for college board its more about depth of the usage of 1 example

so what should i follow? 1 really well thought out great example. or 3 cranked out examples, not as great..

Going with 2 or 3 examples is probably safer. Two well developed examples are better than three underdeveloped examples, so go with two unless you're confident you can thoroughly develop three examples

some people swear by the standard 5 paragraph essay (intro, 3 bodies, conclusion). it tends to work fairly well, but you don't HAVE to have 3 body paragraphs to get a 12. some have gotten 12s with just one or two well developed arguments.

a good compromise that i've struck is to write two well developed arguments and an intro and conclusion
seems to work well enough
