i was jsut reading something in the NYU forum and i came across a post that mentions how ~2100 for stern is toooooo looooooow.

so, which schools are usually more strict on asians? i'm particularly interested in cornell, upenn, dartmouth, and NYU stern...early decision. i'm chinese btw

second question: do colleges favor students who KNOW what they want to major in over those who don't (like if they choose "undecided")???

I don't think it matters. It's the whole package. If you take the Asian out of your packet and your app can be stacked with a majority of the candidates, it'll be rough going for you. True, if you are URM, that is a different story, but a caucasian will have the same issues as you with the same criteria.

Coming from the GArden State and being female will be more problematic than being Asian. Lots of 2100 SAT girls from NJ applying to those schools you mention.

Hopefully not, Yourname. ILR in Cornell likes females. THat may be a good choice. And yes, major can matter depending on the major and the school. Some colleges for separate majors and the criteria for acceptance can differ widely. Cornell is an example. Johns Hopkins has a lot of top notch premed types so if natural science is your thing, the competition is steep, but as a German majors, well, not so much. Carnegie Mellon's computer science school is ultra selective whereas the school of humanities and social sciences gives you about half a chance. Females who are looking at engineering or physics as as major may have a leg up.

Schools like Princeton, Yale, Harvard or those with core programs that do not have much in terms of major selection early on, do not care as they well know that there will be many changes until right up to the end. Science are a tough major because the number of students are limited by lab stations whereas they can always squeeze in another psych major.

nah...i'll be VERY prepared to get rejected. probably cry and just smash something in the house. LOL....can u comment on dart, cornell, and penn? their ideal SAT's and such?

well yourname here.. dont be that scared cause its not IMPOSSIBLE.

one of my best friends (asian female from NJ) applied to (and became part of) the stern class of 2011. i know for a fact she had less than a 2100 SAT. she had a 4.4 GPA though (no ranking in our HS) from a competitive public HS where 40+ kids apply to NYU every year. she did have solid ECs and a pretty killer essay and lots of "first hand experience" to go on for some of her essays.
