The finest scenes in movies

In another really good John Cuzak film, High Fidelity, one of the funniest scenes with Jack Black telling a customer in Cuzak’s record store that there’s no chance that the customer’s daughter wants "I just called to say I love you” by Stevie Wonder.

Brassed Off . Rodrigo “Orange Juice” scene. There is about a 5 1/2 minute scene of it on YouTube. I’m bad with links sometimes!

The ending of “When Harry Met Sally”, when we listen to “It had to be you” and he realizes it had to be her…… He runs to her and delivers that final speech.

My H would definitely agree with you. My S thinks the horsehead scene is the best.

I’ll have to mention this to my H, he loves Apocalypse now, he knows the movie by heart. I’d be surprised if the hasn’t heard of that documentary. That and The Godfather

H and I have been having a bit of a Tom Hanks marathon lately. We’ve watched Big, Forrest Gump, Cast Away. We just watched Apollo 13 this weekend. I hadn’t seen it in years and I forgot how good it was. So many great scenes!

The scene in Groundhog Day where he wakes up and you have the Sonny and Cher song playing on the clock radio, it sets the tone for the whole movie. H loves the Phil Connors scene.

I also always quote this scene from You’ve Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan:

“That Caviar is a garnish!”

Oh and can’t forget Three Amigos, my nephew can play this song on the ukulele:

Ah, Tom Hanks has so many good movies. When you run out of old ones, there is a recent one called Finch on Apple TV. It’s a bit like Castaway, with a futuristic/doomsday theme. We liked it.

This podcast was also fun BBC Radio 4 - Desert Island Discs, Tom Hanks, actor

This is a favorite scene in our house. It’s the supermarket hot dog buns scene in Father of the Bride. It’s one my D’s favorite scenes from a movie. Every time we watch it she laughs out loud:

H quoted this scene yesterday when we were freezing extra hamburger buns. He said he was removing the “superfluous buns.”

And who can forget this epic scene from Father of the Bride:

And then there’s this funny one from Father of the Bride Part 2. I realized I hadn’t included any scenes with Franck:

another good one:

Haha! That’s a great scene! Probably H’s favorite part of Sleepless in Seattle.

Another great low budget film by Kevin Smith was Clerks. I’d love to post a clip, but I couldn’t find any that weren’t NSFW.

There’s one scene where a young female customer with a baby wants to order a kid’s video at a video store and the clerk is behind the counter already on the phone with the video distributor. The clerk then proceeds to order a bunch of porn films while the customer and baby are standing right in front of them at the counter.

That’s the film that the mother wants for those who haven’t watched Clerks. I can’t stop laughing at the scene. But that’s my kind of humor.

Blazing Saddles, which probably couldn’t be made today, has that farting scene, which I do enjoy alot. But here’s a scene with Gene Wilder cheering up the new Rockridge sheriff:

It’s not a particular scene, but anytime in the movie Young Frankenstein when they say “Frau Blucher” and the horses neigh, cracks me up. My BIL can do a great impression of that. Although, any scene in Young Frankenstein is great.

Mel Brooks movies are the best. Never a bad scene in those. Look up “To Be or Not to Be” by Mel Brooks. It’s hilarious and totally Mel Brooks.

How about Matthew Broderick meeting Marlon Brando (with Bruno Kirby) for the 1st time in The Freshman:

Maybe not finest but (at the time) iconic: The fugitive “I didn’t kill my wife” scene.

The Carroll Shelby & Henry Ford II test drive in Ford vs. Ferrari is a great scene.

As a big fan of Carroll Shelby and his cars, and Enzo’s too, I loved this movie. So many other great scenes too. :+1:

Somehow I’ve never seen Diner, but I hope the point of that scene is what a jerk that guy is, because he sure conveys it well.

Lots of great posts above. But I would classify many of these as memorable or humorous scenes, rather than “finest”.

Or the character shows he has OCD.

@DadOfJerseyGirl Opinions of movies will obviously vary. Even professional movie critics and/or audiences will disagree on movies. “Finest” or exceptional high quality scenes can even come in poorly rated films IMO.
