Fun fact: Ron Howard’s mom played the grandma in that scene.

Jaws is my favorite movie.

Most people so far have posted scenes from great movies everyone knows. Here is something a bit more obscure.

This is a scene from Breaking Away, a film from 1979 which won Best Screenplay and was nominated for Best Picture. A sweet coming of age movie, but the dad in the movie was pure comedy gold.

Very disturbing movie but a favorite… Apocalypse Now.

Final scene from Lost in Translation with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Love the secret whisper and the soundtrack “Just Like Honey.” I thought about this movie for days after seeing it.

If you appreciate Apocalypse Now, you should definitely watch the documentary about making the movie.

So funny…it’s a great movie, and I was just talking to D not more than an hour ago about “Breaking Away”.

We’re about to go on a college visit road trip: she gets to pick the music in the car, and I pick the movies in the hotel. Several of the ones mentioned here (including “Breaking Away”) are candidates for “Dad’s Movies to Show to D on College Road Trip”!

I have no idea what key sequence I hit but all of a sudden every clip in this thread that I had watched started playing, crazy!

“We have a pool and a pond. The pond would be good for you.”

Silverado is an underrated western. This Paden scene is a great one.

This refund clip is hilarious! Is the whole movie this funny? Thanks for a laugh…

I wouldn’t call “Breaking Away” a comedy, but one of the threads of the movie is that the son wants to be an Italian bicycle racer, IIRC, and the relationship between the dad and son has many funny moments.

The Color Purple has many moving scenes and the music score is amazing. My favorite scene is when Whoopi Goldberg’s character(Celie) has finally had enough and speaks her mind and Oprah Winfred’s character (Sophia) reacts.

And speaking of Purple, Prince in “Purple Rain” when he sings “The Beautiful Ones”. It is my favorite Prince song that shows so much range…soft quiet almost whispered opening to a powerful intense end locking eyes with leading lady Apollonia.

A very underrated dark rom com film from the 1997, with John Cuzak and Minnie Driver, I loved Gross Pointe Blank.

John Cuzak is an assassin who’s returning to his hometown for his 10-year HS reunion, after disappearing and not showing up for his prom date, ten years earlier, with Minnie Driver’s character.
