The schools that make up the Five College Theater are Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and UMass Amherst. The schools collaborate together so that students can take classes at the other campuses without additional charge. Students from the different schools audition and perform shows together.

I was wondering if anyone has any information about these schools, and more specifically about their MT opportunities.

I think the official name for the collaboration program that you’re speaking of is the Five-College Consortium (or at least that’s what the students call it!). I recently visited Amherst, so I can only give information from that perspective, and unfortunately know very little about theater, but the Amherst students were all very enthusiastic about the Consortium opportunities. Some of the five have more stringent requires than others as to how many credits must be completed on the actual home campus, but I know that at Amherst, at least, one class per semester could be taken at one of the other four schools, and it was fairly common to explore that option, with 53% of Amherst students having taken non-Amherst courses by graduation. I also know that the Consortium offers certificates (with one of the five schools as the main location for each) which could be obtained in specialties unavailable as majors; for example, one could obtain a Five-College Certificate in African Studies by taking various possible classes to fulfill its requirements amongst several schools. There was also an Inner Term option available during which alternative-style classes (with some fun topics!) were offered at each school during what would otherwise be the January break; any student from any of the five schools could stay on campus and take either a credit or non-credit course.

I hope that this insight is at least mildly helpful; good luck!

Oh yes! You’re perfectly correct. Sorry about that. The overall program is of course the Five-College Consortium, but the specific theatre part of the program is the Five-College Theater. According to the website at least.
