The Fun Starts Again! College Football at the Top Colleges

Are you ready for some good times!! College football is back. Set up the tailgates, cue the marching bands, turn on ESPN, grab your favorite beverage and enjoy the pageantry, the parties, the spirit, the passion, the games, and the FUN.

College football is a major part of collegiate social life at many of America’s top colleges. While the “football scene” may not appeal to all, I believe strongly that a good time can be had by fan and non-fan alike. And for those students who enjoy the sporting scene or are willing to give it a look, this aspect of the undergraduate experience can be an important differentiating factor in choosing a college.

Here are this weekend’s match-ups for the USWNR Top 30 National Universities:

Hawkette, we're about to butt heads again!

I have just one question for you: Are you feeling lucky, punk?

Well, those matches are all good and all, but Florida-Miami is really the game this weekend.

Also playing this weekend are:

MIT, @ Maine Maritime

Wash U, Greenville

Johns Hopkins, St. Lawrence

Carnegie Mellon, @ Ohio Wesleyan

Georgetown, @ Howard

arbiter,
I think that Duke football (team and scene) aren't very good. For you and for the sake of Northwestern, you better win today. :)

Good luck to the Wildcats.

Dude, Chicago's playing its homecoming game against Oberlin this year. A school that's half our size (if that) including all of the conservatory students who have probably never touched a football. Oberlin is probably the only school with a football team that we have any remote chance of beating. Consider our track record:

My first year, we tried to revamp the traditional Chicago/WashU rivalry, but WashU creamed us at our own homecoming. Also, I would say the attendance at the game was 3:1 WashU fans: Chicago fans.

Last year, we decided to pick on a school we hoped was nerdier than ours, so we chose CMU. CMU beat us by a score I won't mention, and I would say the attendance was 2:1 CMU Fans: Chicago fans. Consider that Pittsburgh is pretty darn far away, too, for people to come out to a game. That fan ratio probably increased after I left the game during halftime.

So I think it's fair to say that this thread might be misleading, at least to the extent of how much time, money, effort, etc. people put into supporting their own teams. Though we do have a booster club, most U of C students who like sports end up rooting for the other sports teams in Chicago instead of our own.

Sadly, U of C had one of the best records in the Big Ten before it dropped out and paved the gridiron to put up a parking lo... err, Library.

wow MIT at Maine Maritime, what a game. Two powerhouse teams. haha

I saw Navy vs. Ball State University on ESPN (also known as Everyone can Score Points on Navy) lol I thought that sign was pretty witty and surprisingly concocted by a student from BSU.

Navy got murdered. :(

"I thought that sign was pretty witty and surprisingly concocted by a student from BSU."

Typical elitist attitude. It saddens me that I have to read stuff like that on here.

Final Score:
Cal Bears 66, Wazzu Cougs 3

Biggest loss in Wazzu history.
Biggest win for Cal since 1925 (Cal 127, St. Mary's 0)

The trees are coming down and Cal's gonna start building its new gym:

You can cry on my shoulder on Nov. 22nd.

^ Not a chance.

How are your trees doing against the Scum Devils?

We're having technical difficulties.

i blame everything on the crappy pac-10 officials. and the weather.

See? A kindred soul.

This is really, really nerdy...

Hawkette, you might enjoy the blog Lake The Posts - Northwestern Football Blog, written by a Northwestern Wildcat fan who, uh, gets a little upset that the rest of the campus doesn't always seem to share his enthusiasm ...

Here's a sample: "The low point in NU Fandom - 9/13/08 - 11:05 am CT - KICKOFF! (showing a stadium with many empty seats - keep in mind the city had non-stop rain the entire weekend with much flooding)
Considering I personally spoke with all of you who attended the game and were not wearing maroon, you know I'm on to you. The attendance at Saturday's game was a complete an utter embarassment to the program and the kids who pour their guts out to entertain us all fall. Yes, it rained 7 inches in 24 hours in Chicago leading into the game. Yes, many streets were flooded and sections of I-94 were closed. But I drove through several flooded towns and was forbidden from using 94, but still made it to the game in plenty of time."

He's pretty hard core, lol.
