The Game we have all been waiting for...

Michigan needs a new CARR with LES MILES.

yea seriously stop defending carr anyone who is. his heyday was before the tressel era, where he dominated osu, and won the national championship. Since then, he has deserved his job less and less. You can point to 13 winning seasons-but keep in mind that THIS season is a winning season in which everything that matters was lost. Rose Bowls- he got there but didn’t win many. Big ten championships-5/13 is nowhere near what a michigan team deserves. Michigan, as the winningest program in football deserves better than what Lloyd Carr gave them. Class and dignity are admirable qualities, and he’s unassailable on those grounds, but for a college coach, it comes down to how you perform.

personally, I’d rather have a coach who represents a university and its students have class and character over an arrogant SOB who makes waves with every other football conference in the country. Problem is, a lot of people are too caught up in winning to realize that college football isn’t just about winning. It’s about standing for a school, a town, and a state. And I think Carr has done that as well as anyone in college football history. Besides, Miles won’t leave LSU for Michigan. LSU do will do everything in its power to keep him.

Yep, OSU deserved to win that one; we didn’t play like a Big Ten Championship team at all. Still, very sorry not to send these seniors (and possibly Carr) out with a win against the Buckeyes.

Les Miles could definitely leave for Michigan-it’s his alma matter and he was an assistant there. Regarding the game, I agree that Henne should have been taken out. I think Carr would have taken him out if he were a junior, but since Henne hadn’t beaten them in all 3 years he was there, I think Carr wanted to let him and the other seniors decide their own fate (after all, this is more or less the game they came back for).

Michigan played like **** today. Their offensive line was dominated, as was their defensive line. Almost every throw Henne would overthrow/throw behind his receiver. When he hit them, they dropped it. Michigan didn’t deserve to win.

BTW vc08, Ty Willingham is not a very good football coach at all. He is like Herm Edwards, good motivator but very poor with Xs and Os.

What a horrible game. Disappointing because the defense really stepped up.

An abysmal performance all around. Offence and defence came together in a calamitous way to produce what was probably the worst Michigan-OSU game in recent history. Michigan was uninspired, tepid and clueless. Henne was shocking. Hart was reduced to a mere passenger as Michigan’s offence was unable to open the holes for him to go through.

It’s sad because the environment pre and during the game was outstanding. Anyone who was there at the Diag on Friday night would know the expectations fans had with this team. So this was possibly the worst way to pay us back. Carr, Hart, Henne: thank you for all that you’ve done for us over the years but I guess it’s time to move on.

Dissapointed.

PAINFUL…what’s worse my husband took the 3 kids from NJ to see the game…

Tickets on ebay $1400
Plane faire $1600
Hotels and food $600
Car rental $150

Standing in the sleet and freezing rain for 6 hours to get trounced by a bunch of morons…priceless

Never again do I WANT TO HEAR HIM COMPLAIN ABOUT MY SHOE BUDGET!!!

^^Ouch. I went to see, for free though. Worst UM game I’ve ever been to.

Losing teams don’t stand for a thing. It’s great to have class, but we need to win first and worry about that later. If Carr can’t do that anymore, we need someone who can.

i think there’s a reasonable chance that if Michigan really wants Les Miles, they can get him. The only thing they have to do is pay his buyout clause, and pay him more than LSU offers, which UMich can do.

So can LSU though. LSU, IMO, will do whatever it takes to keep him. Besides, who even knows if he’d want to leave? Look at Zook and Erickson. They were offered very high profile jobs with big pricetags before ending up with their current teams, and didn’t take them. Miles has an awesome fanbase in the south, and the SEC plays a different type of football than the Big-10, for better or worse. Who knows, he could very well end up at Michigan, but I’m just saying there’s a lot that factors into it.

And I must say that as a recently accepted student, I’m disappointed to see the urge by current students and alumni to put winning above reputation. I mean, even TV commentators make fun of him for his criticism of other teams and conferences. Oklahoma has a great program. Miami has been very successful in the past decade. But few would put them above Michigan in terms of overall excellence because Michigan exemplifies excellence in the classroom and on the field. If Miles comes to Michigan, I will support him and the team as much as ever. But I hope fans do not disregard class and what the University of Michigan stands for just for the sake of winning a few more games per year.

i am a recently accepted student as well, and if I go to Michigan, I don’t just want to be a Wolverine, I want to be a Wolverine that eats Buckeyes. Football is a game, and games are played to be won. Michigan’s “excellence” is not about their class, it’s about being the winningest program in college football history, class is great to have but it comes secondary to winning football games. The fact that the University plasters the fight song on everything they send you emphasizes the importance they put on VICTORY, which Lloyd Carr just couldn’t deliver.

..except for the 75% win percentage, 5 big-10 titles, and national championship he won.

whatever, i don’t care who they hire, as long as they find someone with good ideals who represents the students and state well.

here’s a great article on what carr did for michigan, and why integrity MATTERS to those who love umich most:

[U-M’s Bill Martin speaks on Carr: ‘What I’d love to be able to do is clone him’](http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071117/SPORTS06/71117034)

vc08, I believe Miles will def leave LSU for Michigan. He loves Michigan and as weird as this might sound right now, Michigan is a better program than LSU and it is easier to win championships here.

BUT, I don’t know why everyone wants Les Miles, he isn’t that great of a coach. I rather have Brian Kelly or Tedford (although I am a little dissapointed in him this year lol). When the UM job opens up, there will be an abundance of great coaches who are better than Les Miles that will line up to take this job.

Haha, I would love michigan to get Tedford, but Cal is my home team, so I have mixed emotions about that lol. I’m concerned that Kelley doesn’t have the experience winning at big-time levels.

As far as the question about Miles, I agree that Michigan is a once in a lifetime opportunity. But read this:

"A thousand or so miles away, Louisiana State coach Les Miles is stuck playing the same game.

The Michigan grad is coaching the No. 1 team in the country and is obviously going to at least get a phone call when Lloyd Carr retires, although nobody outside of athletic director Bill Martin knows whether that’s going to be a courtesy phone call or a please-come-on-home plea.

If Miles says he’s interested in the job, he’s being disloyal to his team and disrespectful to Carr. If he says he has no interest, he’s going to be seen by many Michigan fans as running down the school he claims to love.

So Miles, like Carr, continues to walk a fine line, essentially promising nothing, most recently on the Jim Rome show Wednesday, where he made it clear he has had no contact with Michigan.
Will Miles be the next coach here if Carr steps down?

Not if Carr announces any time soon. Jilting LSU in the midst of a potentially championship season would go against everything Miles’ mentor Bo Schembechler stood for, and it would be impossible for Miles and Michigan to both hold out for nearly eight weeks as the Tigers chased the title.

Carr knows that, so you can consider the date of his official announcement a bit of a referendum on whether or not he wants Miles to have a shot at the job.

If there is an announcement.

This hasn’t been the season Carr or anyone else expected or wanted, and if he loses to Ohio State and wants to come back and try for a better ending, Martin and the people who run Michigan will be happy to have him."
[MLive.com: Everything Michigan](http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/annarbornews/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1195141422104000.xml&coll=2&thispage=3)

Yah the timing of the announcement (which ESPN said was Monday) boosts the rumor that Carr and Miles are not the closest of friends. I don’t really mind this since I am not the biggest fan of Miles and would be much happier with someone like Kelly; I basically see him as our version of Urban Meyer (without the whining). If he can win with the talent at Cincinnati, I wonder what he could do with all these top ranked WRs and BigTex at his disposal. Also, as good a coach JT is, he hasn’t had the best of times trying to game plan against a spread offense, just ask Meyer and Zook lol.

Also, I really believe Carr will retire, although I actually think our administration would be dumb enough to let him stay if he wanted to like stated in that article. Carr is a nice guy, full of class and dignity, however he just isn’t a good coach and this year was just another painful example of his ability to get minimal results with maximum talent. Can you believe this offense was being hailed as one of the best, if not the best, offenses in the country prior to this season?

Oh also, congrats on getting into UM lol.

Carr and Miles aren’t very tight. And Lloyd Carr will have a BIG influence on who our next coach is.

On top of that, Bill Martin is a money guy. I really don’t know if he will be willing to go out and spend huge money on Les Miles.

Thanks Futbil! Yeah, I agree that Tedford isn’t having the best year. Personally, if Cal fans are calling for his firing, it probably isn’t best to hire him as your next coach at a big-time school.

Tell me about Kelly though. I don’t know much about him. Did he play/coach at Michigan? The only thing I worry about with him is that he hasn’t really coached at the big-D-1 level (though Cinci is a Big-East school, few would argue that it compares team-for-team with the level of physical play and talent in the Big Ten).
