^ Yep. The judge is expected to make a decision on the lawsuit soon so Cal can evict the Treewoks and begin renovating its decrepit facilities. Fingers crossed

I heard they were given permission like last week or something, but are going to wait until break to remove them.

Sorry for the absence of late. I was travelling. I made it as far west as Chicago! Anyway,I did get to see the game. As expected, without a healthy Hart and Henne, there was no way Michigan could do much. Our defense did ok, but our offense cannot click without its senior leaders.

As expected earlier this season, this was to be Carr’s final campaign. Like everything else he did, his retirement was predictible, straight forward and classy. Short and sweet, meat and potatoes. No one man (coach or player) is greater than the program at Michigan.

As for Carr’s sucessor, I am curious to see who will replace him. I hope it is not Ferentz. There are lots of excellent coaches out there, but I want to see a coach who will bleed Maize and Blue, respect Michigan’s traditions but at the same time not shy away from making the necessary adjustments to keep the program at the top.

I guess we’ll know in the coming weeks.

anyone thinks LSU’s fall from national title contention will make it more likely that Les Miles bolts for Michigan?

Whether or not Les Miles won out wouldn’t have impacted his decision, only the timing of a potential announcement. As long as LSU was in contention for the NC, he would not announce his intent. Now that the NC is out of reach, he can make an announcement in the coming days.

well i hope he makes up his mind soon, bc if he doesn’t want to come, we need time to hire someone else. though i think if he knew he wasn’t coming, he would have said something a little more definitive by now.

If Martin is smart he will not hire Les Miles. This guy is not a good coach, and Jim Tressel will be able to coach circles around this guy. The University of Michigan Football has a chance, for the first time in 40 some years, to hire a GREAT coach and to award this program with a truly elite status that is being enjoyed by the likes of USC, Florida, and Ohio State. Yet, if Martin fails to see this and just goes out and hires a “Michigan Man”, then ladies and gentleman we are in for a world of hurt. Miles is not the best man for the job and hopefully Martin can see that.

I don’t know if Miles is the best person for the job, but I strongly disagree with you that he isn’t a good coach. Coming out of the SEC with only 2 losses this year is a feat that few coaches in the country would be able to accomplish. Look at Pete Carroll and USC; they have 2 losses. Urban Meyer has had his share of tough games this year, as had virtually every other program in the country. Miles has proven himself to be a winner wherever he goes; he has helped LSU to BCS bowls, conference championships, and wins against their archrivals. They only two games he lost were in TRIPLE OVERTIME. I think it is quite foolish to look at his record and say that he isn’t a good coach, whether he is the right man for the Michigan job or not.

vc08, I will correct myself. Les Miles is a decent/good coach but he isn’t a great coach. Sure lots of coaches have lost games they shouldn’t have this year. USC’s loss to Stanford was unexplainable and I don’t know how Florida lost to Auburn. BUT you can not compare Les Miles to coaches like Carroll and Meyer. Those coaches have proven their ability to take advantage of the talent they have by going out and winning 3 NC rings combined. Carroll has basically made the PAC 10 his dog and Meyer conquered the SEC in his 2nd year. While Les Miles does have a good record, he has yet to win his conference (and I don’t think he will), and he has won one BCS bowl game against ND (his only appearance). And I usually don’t say this, but I really think Les Miles has benefited from the bevy of NFL talent they have down there at LSU. Now, people tell me “Well what about the job he did at Okie State?” Sure, it was impressive, but it can’t be compared to what coaches like Tedford have done with Cal and Kelly did with CMU. I will give you that Miles is a good coach, but Martin isn’t looking for a good coach he is looking for a GREAT one. If we are gonna go by winning percentages without looking into the context then we might as well keep coach Carr because he certainly had a great winning percentage. Also think about this, would Les Miles even be considered as one of the top candidates had he not had any UM connections? Also, who before this year (when all this Michigan drama started in the media) even talked about Miles as being a great coach?

I think a lot of people talked about Miles as a great coach before this year. Now I’m not saying he’s the greatest coach in the history of the game by any means, and he may not even be the greatest coach in college football right now. But he may be Michigan’s best option at this point. Tedford turned Cal around, sure, but he has yet to lead them to a BCS bowl appearance, and many folks in CA are calling for his firing. This year Cal started out 5-0 with a #2 ranking, and now they must beat archrival Stanford just to get a bowl bid (they are currently 6-5). Cincinnati hasn’t exactly lit up college football this year either. Personally, as a diehard Cal fan, I don’t think Tedford has what it takes to coach at Michigan yet. I don’t think Kelley does either. What Michigan fans want is immediate gratification. They don’t want to wait 4 years to be good enough to beat OSU. So I can’t see them waiting for Tedford to figure out Big-10 schemes, which are drastically different than the high-octane Pac-10 football, not will they wait for Kelley to get his feet wet in a big-time conference. Not to mention the fact that all of Tedford’s recruiting connections are on the west-coast

Miles probably wouldn’t be considered a top candidate if he wasn’t an alum for the simple reason that he wouldn’t be interested. That’s like asking Carroll to come to Michigan. Why should he? If he was a Michigan alum and coach though, would he be interested? Yes, possibly.

First of all, all the Cal fans who are actually calling for Tedford’s head should be smacked in the head so they can remember where their program was before Tedford arrived. I disagree with the notion that someone like Kelly will take a long time to get used to the BIG 10. The guy has won everywhere he has been from the moment he steps in the new stadium. And no, no one was talking about Miles being a great coach before this season, and in reality not many people outside of the LSU and Michigan fan bases are calling him a great coach this year either. Miles would not be considered by UM if he didn’t have connections because he simply isn’t that great of a coach. Also someone like Carroll or Meyer might not be interested in UM, but that isn’t what I asked anyways. I asked would UM be interested in coaches like Meyer and the answer is heck yes because they are GREAT coaches. I am willing to bet some coaches on Martin’s list have no interest in UM, yet they are on it because Martin views them as great coaches and thinks it is worth a phone call. Miles, however, is on that list because he played for Bo. Also recruting won’t be a problem, this is Michigan the winged helmet recruits itself. And I realize Michigan fans want instant gratification, I do too, but guess what? We aren ‘t going to get it with Les Miles. If someone honestly think Miles can beat coaches like Tressel on a consistent basis then I don’t know what to tell him or her. The hilarious thing in all this is, in about 3 years or so all these Miles’ supporters are going to be calling for his head after we drop bunch of winnable games and lose to Ohio State for the 8th or 9th time in 10 years. Martin has a chance to set his legacy at UM by hiring a true great, just like Don did by hiring Bo; lets hope, for the sake of the university, he doesn’t blow it by just going with the ‘safest’ candidate.

ok, whatever you say.

FUTBILL, Les Miles had only been head coach for 6 years before this season, so I don’t think it is realistic to expect him to have been considered one of the nation’s best coaches for a long time. However, he developped a reputation early on. In his first couple of seasons as head coach (when he was at Oklahoma State), he managed to defeat Oklahoma twice. Oklahoma was ranked among the top 5 teams in the nation back then. In fact, he was named Big XII coach of the year by the AP at the end of his second season at Oklahoma State. At LSU, he has finished 11-2 in his first couple of seasons.

That is not to say that I think Les Miles is a great coach or that he is the right coach for Michigan. However, I think he has proven several times that he is capable of winning big games consitantly.

Well I don’t think it matters anymore. According to a blog, It seems like our genius AD and our wonderful school president has offered the job to Kirk Ferentz..yah Kirk Ferentz the Iowa coach. Now before you blast me for citing a blog, know this; this same blog reported Carr’s retirment and even his monday press conference a week before the actual event. Thank you Bill Martin for screwing UM football for the next 10 years!!

I hope that isn’t true. I think we can all agree that Ferentz would be a step down. Yikes! I am not surprised that our President was in favor of Ferentz. She hired him when she was President at Iowa. But I would have expected more from Bill Martin.

Why would anyone know for sure about Carr’s retirement a week before it happened? That means Carr has made up his mind even before the Ohio State game?

There were people in the athletic department who knew ahead of time (even though it wasn’t “announced”). My guess is just to give them more time than Sunday to get everything prepared for the press conference. I’m pretty sure Lloyd had his mind made up well before the OSU game.

Lloyd had decided this would be his last year before even the Appalachian State game.

God help us if Ferentz comes in. I mean are you joking me???

can someone post the link if they find that blog please? thnx.
