He has five other schools to hear from. I hope he is accepted to at least one of his "reach" schools but it just seems so difficult. We'll see. Good luck to you and your son. We'll have to talk again if they both end up at Mich honors!

Ha, Berurah, be thankful he isn't thinking about a screen or other performing arts career! You think the the app process is expensive, try throwing in an audition for each of those schools. Not only that at Michigan, where my son also applied, the director of the program made it very clear that financial aid for out of stater in the program and merit awards were very lean, probably because there is so much demand for the program they do not need to pay for the talent to come. And a performing arts student is one who definitely should not take out much in loans, as there are certainly going to be lean times ahead for them. The starving artists stereo type is only being dispelled by generous parents' bank accounts.

Berurah: Good luck to your S tomorrow!

jami,

With three daughters (16, 14, and 10 tomorrow!) who do MT, I am VERY acquainted with the college application process for those in the MT field. I told my D's to not even CONSIDER it! LOL We live in this fairly remote area, as you know, but amazingly the MT opportunities here are PHENOMENAL. There is one professional theatre which is extremely well respected nationally, and there are regularly several seniors here (in our general area, not my S's school) who get into the UM BFA program. I can think of two in the last two years or so who got accepted to UM, and one is a freshman this year (but I think the other may have opted for something else with more money offered). I definitely do not envy the parents and kids who are sweating those types of admissions processes. My oldest daughter is currently involved in a production of "Grease". There are several from that show who have been all over auditioning, some for Tisch, some for UM, many for other schools ALL OVER. It is an arduous endeavor, that's for sure!

Bridie,

Like your son, my son has several reach schools to hear from , probably 7 out of the remaining 8. I hate to say this, but we are not counting on ANY of them...that's why we were so excited about the UM acceptance and the Honors Program. But we still have hope! I am crossing my fingers and praying for the best--for my son, and for yours too (and for andi's and the many others here who have been with us all the way!)!

marite,

Thanks, sweetie! Your well wishes mean more than you know! I don't feel so alone having you around. ~berurah

bridie,

Do you have your pm off because you don't want to receive pm's? If you turn it on, I'd like to send you a pm. ~berurah

berurah,

Being an alum of one of Michigan's graduate schools and a parent of a Michigan LSA graduate, congrats to your son for his acceptance at, in my view anyway, the best public university in the country. It's a great place and Ann Arbor is a great town.

My daughter got her first interview (which culminated in her first post-college job!) in NYC solely because she had graduated from Michigan. Go Blue.

browninfall,

It sounds like your family has a wonderful U of M tradition going! Thanks for the congrats! My warmest congrats to your daughter, too, for landing what sounds like an exciting job in an exciting city because she graduated from Michigan! I agree about its being the finest public university in the country. My husband grew up in Michigan, but did not have the good fortune of attending U of M. He has always been a HUGE UM football fan, though!

berurah-I think I've turned on my pm...

berurah--here are some scholarships available at Michigan.

(You may be aware of them. There are a few out of state scholarships available.)

meredesfilles,

Thanks a bunch! I just knew that the application we filled out also served as his scholarship application, but I wasn't aware of the individual scholarships available. Thanks for the link. I will be bookmarking it! ~berurah
