The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly....

UPDATE! S. received an invitation to the Honors Program just minutes ago! Yay! Now, if we can just get a little merit money!!!!!!!!

twinmom,

Thanks for the congrats! I loved Rosanne Rosanna-Danna! And she was definitely right! ~berurah

Berurah:
Happiness is a... fat letter. Now go have a triple-shake to celebrate :)

...and congratulations to you and your son, once again.

Another good one to remember for these boards is Emily Litella's: "Never Mind :)"

Oh good Berurah!! I like to think that the UMich Honors offer we released yesterday went to your son today ...... sharing amongst CC families!!!

That's just awesome!!! Only 10% of the students receive the offer - so your son is certainly someting special!!

You deserve champagne!! Give your son a big WOOT WOOT from the CC crowd.

Congrats again!

That's fantastic Berurah. I'm sure he'll get merit money, he's too outstanding not too.

I was thinking that too andi. Berurah, please cntinue to share the good news that is sure to keep coming to your doorstep for your son. It's wondereful to hear your sighs of relief after the big wait.....and most of us have been there, so we know the joy! The rest of us are right behind you, and will get good news soon. I can't wait for others on this board to receive word!! It's enough for us all to stick around ;)

Y'all have NO idea how much your support and enthusiasm means to my S and me! Very few of my close IRL friends have been through this (yet) and most of S's peers will be attending JUCOs or very close local U's for which this process is not nearly as complex and stressful. Also, our extended family is, let's just say, not very involved with our kids. So, you wonderful CCers ARE our family for this process, and we are very grateful! :)

momsdream--can we adopt you and your family please?! You are so very kind and your genuine feelings of happiness for my S shine through in each of your posts. I, too, would like to think that your very talented and deserving son passed on the spot in the Honors Program to mine! Like you, it thrills me to hear of each success, even the little ones leading up the the big ones. I am so looking forward to this April when the good news starts rolling in for everyone.

optimizerdad--funny story about the big letter. When it came, S's 11-year-old brother brought it in (they were off for conference days), and he was the first to say, "Open it!! It's a FAT envelope!" S, who hadn't expected to hear anything for quite a few more weeks, had said that it must be just some more literature from the school. When my younger son was right, he didn't let any of us forget it! Thanks for the congrats!!

yemaya13--Thanks again! You are SO sweet!

andi--I hope you are as right about this as you have been about everything else! You are a doll, and we so appreciate your continued support. We still have our fingers crossed for your son, and we are looking forward to some great news coming soon!

The kindness and generosity of the people on this board continues to astound me.

With much respect and gratitude, ~berurah

Yay!!! So happy to hear about the Honors, Berurah. I am sure that there will be a lot more good news in the coming weeks for you both. And lots of reasons to celebrate.
Happy Happy Joy Joy

Berurah, more congrats heaped upon you for being a wonderful mom, and of course to your son, too! Such a world of excitement waiting for him out there! Yea!

Berurah, I am sure that your S will have a number of choices to make. You'll be huffing and puffing in that brown bag, but joyfully as well. He will get some merit money, and there will all kinds of decisions to make, but it will be fine. What a roller coaster ride this is.

berurah when I had mentioned to you previously that my older s had gotten money from his school, it wasn't based on need as I might have implied, it was merit money. We were very surprised and happy to have received it. That's why I'm so sure your son will get merit money. :) ya gotta trust me on this.......

Congrats, Berurah and S! I have not been following all of this though I peek in periodically. My Masters and H's PhD are from U Michigan and we have a very warm place in our hearts for UM - that UM! So nice to hear all the good news. Good shabbos!

Berurah ... hooray!

Excellent! (quoting Mr. Burns)

I agree with you, Berurah, this board is great for sharing what we can't in real life, for fear of being labelled pretentious or boring, when we're just enthusiastic and excited!

Hey y'all!

It's been CRAZY around here with all the birthdays and such, but I wanted to come back on and check in. S got the splint off of his nose on Thursday, and with the exception of some residual swelling, it looks pretty good. He still has some hints of two black eyes though. I hope the bruising fades out some more before his interview tomorrow!

chocoholic: Thanks for the congrats on the admission to the Honors Program. We are still nervous about the OOS cost, though. Hoping to hear some good news for both your daughter and my son soon.

cricket: Thanks for the congrats and for the kind comments about my mothering. I am NOTHING if not enthusiastic! :) I will always be my kids' number one fan and most ardent advocate. I consider myself in good company on this forum, where so many parents are so supportive and caring.

jami: You are SO right about this being a roller coaster. The only thing that makes the ride less terrifying is having you and the others in the seat right by me. I want to thank you for all of your continued support and for being an invaluable source of information and advice. I hope you are right in that more good news is on the way. We are getting very excited and hopeful as these weeks roll by!

andi: I am so encouraged by the experieces you've related about your older son! When you are on this side of it, it can look so scary and hopeless, but the positive experiences of others provide much needed perspective and hope! Thanks so much for your continued support!

wish: I'm so glad that both you and dh had great experiences at UM. Like you, I feel excited when I hear of anyone considering my alma mater as a college choice. Brings back great memories, huh? It's funny...your son is probably going to attend my alma mater, and my son may very well attend yours! Keep me posted about what your son's final decision will be!

twinmom: Awwwww, thanks for the "hooray"! You have been so very kind. I appreciate it greatly!

fireflyscout: You are so right about this board. When I was nearly 40 and pregnant with my last child, I turned to an online support group because all of my IRL friends were long done with that stage. It made the experience so much more meaningful and exciting. Being able to share these milestones with those who are in the same place is very, very special. Thanks for being a part of this with my son and me!

Ah, well - goodbye to what could have been a promising screen career... :)

opdad--Well, shoot! If he were to have that screen career, I wouldn't have to worry so much about the merit aid! lol ~berurah

Berurah, Is Michigan your son's first choice or is he waiting on some other schools?

Bridie,

My son LOVES Michigan and would be VERY honored to attend school there. But, he still has 8 other applications out with results expected in April. Because of our situation with having a large family and limited resources, we will have to wait 'til everything comes in and then compare costs for what each option will cost. How about your son?? Is he also waiting on other decisions? ~berurah
