The Grandparent Thread

The extension is priceless! So glad airlines made it fairly painless as well! :smiley:

Great news! So glad you’re able to stay longer.

@mominva, how wonderful that everyone is home and you will be able to stay with them! My S and DIL are staying with us for a week while some work is being done on their apartment. It’s been so nice to spend some concentrated time with them while they are still 2! They went to her OB yesterday and all is good - in another month (32 weeks) they will do another high res sonogram to measure everything, begin birthing classes at the hospital, and start seeing her every 2 weeks. Time is starting to fly!

@mominva Wonderful news!

Smiling happily at the good news and good vibes here. I’m getting excited about our little granddaughter coming in November. We have three sons and one grandson so having a little girl will be refreshing for us! Totally new experience. I actually hope she is at least a little bit girly girl. LOL.

We love girls in our house! H was one of 4 boys. We have two DDs and now one grand-dau.

I was really lucky to have 11 days with DD and GD during travel seeing relatives while DD needed a lot of rest - I was happy to take over half of the time with GD and DD really appreciated it. Seeing GD enough for her to remember me, from the day of her birth to now when she is 3 months old.

Thanks all; Grandparenthood is an incredible feeling made all the more special by the resolved NICU anxiety (and I’m an acute care peds RN!!).
This little guy has 2 middle names, for both his late Grandpas.

Congrats on all the pending arrivals.

@atomom - Congratulations!

@SOSConcern - We love Melissa and Doug. This is our current favorite. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pull-Along-Zoo-Animals/39359193 Ours is a 1980 version.

@my-3-sons - February is a great month to be born!

Great news, @mominva! I am so happy for all of you!

So sweet!

So glad to hear al the great news and updates, @mominva and @VaBluebird !

Time DOES fly! Hard to believe our little granddaughter is 11 mos old already!!! Can’t wait to head out there for her first birthday!!

DD2 kept one child toy (she is really into career right now) - and I have looked to see if I can find one like it. It is a duck that you roll back and it rolls forward on the floor. I think it is older than my kids, as I believe I got it at a consignment store.

Enjoy just thinking about being a Nana…and looking forward to each visit.

Is one of these your duck @SOSConcern ???

DIL is now about four months along in her pregnancy. She texted me yesterday that they heard the heartbeat at her doctor’s appointment and that she’s gained four pounds. I think she’s starting to feel that it’s real.

@basket thanks for the look up. The duck is plastic with the mechanism where you roll it back on the floor and it rolls itself forward and I think it also either flaps wings or quacks. Engineer DD2 kept that toy - she really loves it. I don’t even know who made it because no logo on it. It is at least 22-25 years old.

I found out I can schedule to babysit GD when DD is at work and SIL is at Army Reserves drill in Oct. Happy, happy.

I believe we will see them the evening of Labor Day - getting everyone together at their central location for a few hours.

I gotta get the Schwitzer-Deutsch and bonding time in with GD.

Will see DD2 some this weekend. Nice to get the family time together while they all still live in-state and not too far.

I found two other great Fisher Price toys - 6 month plus is “Baby’s First Blocks” which has 10 blocks to sort, stack and drop in a cute handled shape sorter with lid and the 10 blocks. States it develops fine motor skills, problem solving skills, and curiosity. I think this was maybe $25, but to me is a classic.

The other is Fisher Price 9 months plus “3 in 1 Crawl Along Tumble Tower” - play by sit and play, crawl and chase, and puzzle maze. Develops problem solving, gross motor, and self expression. Great toy for $10

I think GD will really enjoy! She has a very active mind and body.

We got GD “Baby’s First Blocks” and paid <$10 at Target for them. GD likes clicking the blocks together. When her daddy was little, he would cheat by taking the lid off to put the blocks in the bucket instead of trying to sort them by shape. We’ll see if his daughter takes after him.

nice price @shellfell - i got at kohls but used kohls cash…i will have to watch more for things at Target when I am in the store…

Hubby and I went to “Grandparents Hour” at grandson’s preschool/daycare. How cute they were! 8 two year olds pretty oblivious of each other, not matured to the “play together” stage yet, each doing his or her own thing. One little girl took up with me and brought me books to read and puzzles to hold while she placed the pieces. Our grandson completely ignored us. LOL.

@VaBluebird, that must have been so much fun!

Shhhh! I can’t tell anyone in real life, but D is pregnant! Her due date is May 11. She just had a positive test. She knows it is really early and made me promise not to tell anyone. The other grandparents and siblings will get the happy news soon. We are praying for a healthy GS or GD to join our family. GS will be almost 27 months old when the baby arrives. I am thrilled!

I ran through my morning routine on the computer and when I got to Instagram, DIL had posted a video of my granddaughter “walking” her little walker toy with blocks through the house. I bet she will be walking independently soon. She will be 11 months old this Sunday and still doesn’t have any teeth (or at least didn’t a week ago when I last spoke with S). Complete opposite of my own kids who had teeth by this age and didn’t walk until after 1 year. I watched that video 5 or 6 times before I got dressed for work and wished I could just hope on a plane for FL to see it IRL!

@hrh19, congratulations!!!
