The hardest thing I've ever done

In my 16 years on this planet, I think raising my SAT CR score is the hardest task I've undertook. My writing and math should be around 800 depending on how accurately I read the questions, but I have serious trouble going over 700 on reading. My combined is a mid to low 2200.

Anyone have tips? I'm a junior currently and I've tried Noita's and the usual.

we’re in the same boat pal. My CR is never above a 700.

SC is the easier part. Words typically sound like what they mean, and if you assign negative or positive connotations in each blank, you should ace that section. I find studying vocabulary pointless. Rather, as you still have time because you’re a junior, read good books, lots of them, and look up words that you do not know. Not only does this expand your vocabulary, but also you begin to understand text better for the passage readings. Make sure that your answer is supported by the passage, and don’t let your own knowledge of a particular subject influence you. Moreover, your answers should generally agree with each other. It behooves you to take loads of critical reading sections, every one you can get. Good luck with your endeavor ;)

Heh, I actually attempted to look up a few words for an SC (this was after the test), and the pocket dictionary didn’t even have them.

^Get another pocket dictionary.

are there really advanced pocket(!!!) dictionaries useful for SAT?

learn to love teh passages.

Be thankful that studying for a test is the hardest thing you have ever done. And may it always be.

hahaha ^ you’re totally right.

Read read read and READ! There’s really no substitute for reading and learn how to insightfully understand a pasage.

That’s what I thought too before I looked at SAT II subject tests.

I hear one of the keys to getting a good score at CR (I suck at CR so maybe don’t take my recommendation) is whatever you do, do NOT look at the answers of the question until you have an answer in your head…so what I’m saying is answer the question open ended and then see if it matches up with any of the mult choice answers.

In other words, you can’t let those multiple choice answers make you their *****, you need to attack it, or else you’ll flop and speculate and put incorrect answers.
