Does any one know the number of 2013 class that was taken off of the waitlist?

“at least 85 if not more” was the quote from the Crimson’s article. I believe it was about 100. And around 20 out of 150 were accepted from this thread last year. That number implies a waitlist of 750. That’s where I am getting my number of 75/750 which is 10%

Perfectly logical although CCers might be of a slightly higher caliber overall than the entire waitlist.

Hey, to the kids who are committed to Columbia, would you definitely take Harvard over it if they let you in?

I seriously doubt that. Among overall applicants, yes, but not among waitlistees. Students who are waitlisted at Harvard are all of a very high caliber, and among those, the CC-using students are not likely to be of higher caliber.

Also, I really don’t think at this stage they are choosing one student over the other based on ‘caliber’ (whatever that means). At this point they are probably choosing people based on what holes they need to fill to balance out the entering class.

@Icelands0
Yes.

I want to clarify–today’s article on the Harvard Gazettte is for the Class of '14-- it’s yield and projected admissions of current waitlistees.

@fauve, … is this different from yesterday’s article?

triple eights!

Fauve: A few pages back you can see the discussion about that Gazette article. But thanks for thinking to post on the thread!

I am just going to concede that I am always wrong. No matter what I say, I am just incorrect. Oh well. I do agree that they’re just going to be plugging up holes in the class.

Oops…I did not see it already posted & discussed. Good luck anyway!

Does anyone know what the housing application process is like for those accepted off the WL? Are they considered equally in the process or are they stuck in after it’s all done?

@Boggler: I was wondering that myself. That’s an important point when deciding whether or not to leave a current school (well, if not for the fact that if I got in off the wait list, I would start packing my bags for Harvard right then and there lol) If nothing else, if wait listees get the bad dorms I can use that as consolation when I dont get accepted lol

All of the freshman housing assignments at Harvard are “good”.

If you are accepted off the wait list, there is no need to worry.

All incoming freshman receive their housing assignments in August after a thorough and thoughtful matching process.

@ws59: so does the matching process happen in the summer after the freshman class is finalized? Because that’s what I was hoping they do (though I know most other colleges don’t make this provision).

SDedalus: I owe an apology, I believe you were the closest in accuracy. Thanks

I wouldn’t worry so much about housing. Getting in is the bigger battle.

You are wrong about that ;)

Seriously, nobody really knows what the committee members are looking for or what they are going to do. I bet even they don’t know. So your guess is as good as anyone else’s. Stay cheerful :)

@vicariousparent, Thank you so much. You’re right, no one has any idea, it’s just hard to be cheerful when this is our futures we’re talking about.

900!

We are so much better than the class of 2013. They didn’t hit 900 until May 20th.
