I agree with celaplusaimaple. I liked math, and was never bad at it, but I don’t see how applicable calculus can be to the real world…

I like how the I Hate English thread is getting more attention haha. But that’s expected.

For me, I’m rather mathematically declined. Some math comes easier for me than others though, like I’m better at Geometry and visual math than Algebra. This is probably a stupid question but does computer science integrate a lot of visual math, or is it more algebraic thinking? I’m still deciding on career choices and I’ve been thinking about maybe computers.

Sounds to me like you aren’t too fond of English either. The word is disinclined, not declined.

/joking

I declare this thread an abomination to progress, reason, and all the is justice in this world.

Not everyone can enjoy math. =P If the world were full of people who focused on the maths and sciences, we’d be a much less lively place.

Awww! You’re right. Summer is still in my brain.

Computer Science follows in line with many mathematical principles. Basically, CS helped me think in math better.

This may be one of the smartest (or dumbest) things I have ever said: “Math is for people who can’t read.”

DUMBEST. By far. To me, math is another language. It’s a natural language.

Does anyone else give numbers their own personalities and numbers? I’ve noticed I do it, but it seems to be a more subconcious thing. And I associate problem solving to how the numbers would behave with each other.

Or maybe I’m insane and I have synesthesia. :s

Math is a language of numbers. People who are good at languages are often good with math.

I don’t agree at all. Granted, if everyone spent all of their time working AMC problems the world would be rather dull. But the same is true if everyone spent all of their time writing novels. IMO, most of what makes the world “lively” isn’t attributable to academic subjects.

Well… I associate letters with numbers, I’ve met people who associate colors with numbers, entire words or phrases with numbers and etc.

Clearly you’ve never studied geology.

One day we’ll delve better into how the brain works, and there will actually be full out proof that some people are just better equipped to do math, whereas others are better equipped for humanities, which everyone already knows.

I just do not have the same ability as others to do complex math. My brain can’t grasp it the same way. I’m in college-level calculus right now, but that’s just because my teacher helps me so exasperatingly much. On the other hand, I just wrote my first AP english essay, in 30 minutes the morning it was due, about killing zombies, and got the best grade in the class, one point from perfect.

So, I don’t hate math. I just can’t do math, and even if I were to study it day and night, I would still not grasp it like actual math kids do.

Ugh…Honors English for 11th grade and AP English is quite scary, from what I’ve heard. I’d rather do 30 math problems than a 20 page essay.
