He absolutely loves it. He chose it basically because he got a better vibe from there than any of the other places we visited. Just felt more personal and more welcoming to him. (Full disclosure: He is a legacy, and he did receive financial aid, although it was not the best aid package offered.)
Thank you for the reply gusmom2000, How easy/difficult do you think it would be to come in as a sophomore and make friends? How tough is the workload? When issues have cropped up, have you been happy with how the school has handled them?
I donât know about the making friends part. I think that would depend a lot on the individual, although they do bring in several new kids every grade, so you wouldnât be the only one. I hear about how much homework there is and how hard it is, but I still see nearly a 4.0 gpa. So while the kid may complain, itâs definitely something that he can handle. About when issues crop upâŠI couldnât be happier. His advisor is always available. With us being 600 miles away, weâve had a few medical issues, and weâve received calls from the headmaster, the athletic coaches, the advisor, as well as constant updates from the school via e-mails and texts. They truly care about their students. It is the best decision we have ever made.
The Hill prides itself on being âthe family boarding schoolâ and I do think the administration takes that seriously. I am very impressed with the (relatively) new headmaster. Most students do board and I think a typical student who joins in 10th grade will be ok unless he is very very shy or introverted.
Hi there- thanks so much for the responses. I was wondering how you would describe the âtypicalâ Hill student? Also, how much homework do the kids usually have each night? Do they seem stressed out or is it a good balance? Finally, what is it like for your kid to come home during break and have all their friends in school? Many thanks!
