Rhododendron, thanks. From the front door, up the stairs to the landing, no wall breaks. (It’s a 30’ run. Openings to the LR and DR, a closet door, but it’s continuous wall. And the high ceiling probably compounds the problem.) The issue is that as the light hits different sections of this run, the color changes. Weird.
I was reading up and learned the high end formulas intentionally have "layers " to allow for this. Also weird.
Anyway, the color I liked yesterday is Farrow and Ball, very pricey. I had them color match in C2, painted more tests, and will see how it looks tomorrow. I intend to force myself to pull the trigger over the next few days, during this break in the heat wave.
@BunsenBurner Don’t dismiss Lowe’s too quickly. I remodeled two baths last summer, ordering most items from Home Depot. Out of two different toilets, one had a broken bowl and one had a broken tank. One vanity came in with a crushed corner. They credited me and never even bothered to pick the vanity, so I decided to have it repaired. Cast iron Kohler bathtubs were my biggest issue. I rejected two separate shipments because they looked like golf balls, with dimples covering the exterior exposed side. I ended up going with a Toto tub, which still shows some exterior imperfections.
What bothered me the most was the way they communicated. I had to call them to ask all the time where the heck my stuff was! I am very impressed that HD sent us texts and emails and kept us updated as our order was making it to their store (we opted to ship it to the store). Not a peep from Lowe’s - I also ordered an appliance online and have not heard from them at all! Took a look yesterday, and it has been sitting in the store waiting for pickup. Not a peep, not even a phone call. They have all my contact info! Not the way to do e-commerce. I like their stores though, especially their joint project with SW, the HGTV paint lines. Cheaper than SW lines yet impressive. If Lowe’s does not clean up their online order mess, they will lose the race to HD.
Grey floors are the “in” thing. Every million plus new construction house here has grey floors, subway tile backsplash, white cabinets, and some sort of fake marble like quartz with a waterfall island. And a Viking or a Wolf appliance package (the latter is found in $2M plus houses).
Lowe’s store folks are fine and super helpful. It is that their e-commerce portal is really clunky, sort of like Costco’s. At least Costco will send an email if an item is delayed! There was not a peep from Lowe’s. So if I have a choice - I will not order from Lowe’s online anymore.
Personally, I’m “greiged” to exhaustion. I get that these are workable tones for many. But not me, not in this house. Or rather, not in that foyer, up the stairs, around the corner and down the hall. Maybe in one or more bedrooms.
I am greyed out, too! Maybe we visited too much new construction. It all looks freakin’ identical. Can’t look at another Wolf or Viking appliance either. So we ended up with Miele. Wanted to get white appliances which Miele makes, but it would have taken a looong time to get them in. So we have stainless. At least it is “clean touch.” The fridge that came with the house is smudge-free even though it is almost 20 years old.
@notrichenough, most of the Coretec lines have the same composition, most people just choose the color and style they like. Make sure you go to the stores to look at samples or request samples because the real color can look so different online.
Yes, i agree colors come and go. My mother had our LR and DR painted grey when I was growing up.
I need to paint my older son’s bedroom. It’s a truly dreadful toothpaste aqua now. His choice. It would look nice in a safe gray, but I have to admit it irritates me to paint it such a fashionable color. I know by the time we sell the house it will look totally dated! Since it only gets used as a guest room, I have no strong feelings about the color except that I hate blue walls. It usually has navy sheets with a black watch plaid duvet. Sometimes a forest green. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Watch#/media/File:Black_Watch_slim.png Any thoughts?
LOL. I actually agree taupe might be nice. My suitemate and I painted our main room “Autumn Wheat” and my best friend (not one to mince words) walked in and said, “Landlord brown”. I still think it looked fine, but I’ll always hear her saying that!
Landlords don’t use brown, it makes the rooms look smaller and prospective tenants may not like it.
I use “Stowe White” in all my apartments, nobody can complain about off-white. Then if they want something more colorful, they can paint it themselves. After approving the color, or course.
Landlord?
Navaho White. Some of us have joked before, that every apt we lived in, in CA, was NW. No need to even ask. Need to match it or fix a hole? Just get NW.
I’ve been using Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige as a neutral for a couple of years. But it is somewhat dark for some spaces. You have to sample it on the walls. It can be matched by most paint stores, including Home Depot and Lowes
