Ok, i decided to make a hopkins thread, since i see quite a few other schools have them on here... so be free to ask any questions you have about Hopkins, and i'll be happy to answer them!

CTswim, do you know if there is a difference between Choate and Hopkins on matriculation to colleges?

Do the two have similar profiles? Both schools look like they have a maticulation rate similar to Andover and Exeter to Yale, but maybe less for other HYPMS. Some say it’s because Hopins located in New Haven has lots of sons and daughter day students of Yale faculty who end up enrolling at Yale. Do you know if there is any truth to that’s why the rate for Hopkins going on to Yale maybe somewhat inflated?

Redbluegoldgreen, i see both hopkins and choate as very similar on matriculation and don’t see any huge differences. They are both very prestigious schools. But I have also heard about the ‘sons and daughters of faculty’ situation before, and i don’t necessarily think it’s true. Yale is still about grades and extracurriculars, so maybe that’s why they might accept a son/daughter of faculty, not just because their parent(s) work there.

Any other comments?..questions?..

Happy to see Hopkins thread.
I graduated from Hopkins. So did 8 of my cousins.
Most went to Harvard, one to Yale, one to Cornell… It prepared me well for college, graduate school, etc.
If I lived in and near New Haven, I would have sent my children to Hopkins instead of boarding schools - Hotchkiss and PA (Andover). Day school experience is different from boarding school experience.

I don’t understand why college matriculation levels matter. You don’t get into college based on which boarding school you go to, you get in based on how well you use your 4 years of high school.

Amen! Taftie you’re a good addition to this board!

Haha thanks, I just figured those who get into Ivies/MIT/Standford are a self-selecting group.

An attempt to revive this thread to ask for new impressions of The Hopkins School in New Haven, CT. What are recent experiences? Pros and Cons that should be considered? Are you a current student or parent that can share your experience? Any helpful information or anecdotes as they compare to other CT boarding schools are appreciated.
