Not unless you’re the next LeBron James

russia: congrats on Middlebury, that’s a wonderful school!

update:

31 ACT

admitted: UCLA (honors invite), Michigan, Virginia (likely letter), Wisconsin, U-Washington (honors college), U-Oregon (Dean’s scholarship, honors), UC Davis

my son had level 3, almost 4 SAT
ACT 30

got in Stanford EA, U of Chicago and is waiting on Berkeley

He writes a terrific essay and got great recs. His grades are excellent, EC’s good. His SAT subject tests were better than regular SAT. I guess this shows that he has actual knowledge, in addition to pretty good aptitude.

He’ll be heading to Stanford.

^^ Wow, congrats to your son, gladmom.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who posted their stories about normal people getting in to great schools. When I first logged on to this forum I read posts about valedictorians with 2350s who were president of everything and wrote new theories of particle physics or solved world hunger as high schoolers getting rejected. Thank you for letting me know that you don’t have to be an inhuman schoolbot to get into a good college.

last year class of 07 level 4 scea yale, penn, jhu,

Thanks, amb3r! I am so happy for my son. He did everything HIS way, and he still got in. He took the ACT and SAT only once each. He did no test prep, except for a 4-night ACT review at his hs, which he said didn’t help. He quit a number of his ECs after sophomore year because he wasn’t enjoying them anymore. He used the extra time to take a study hall during school and spend after school time discovering what he really was interested in. Yes, he has taken a fair number of APs, but he also has time to pursue his own interests, which do not include third world volunteer projects or complicated scientific experiments. Stanford won’t be sorry that they chose him.

level 3 (2000) upenn

Wow! Is it also possible to get into an Ivy League school without making National Merit Semifinalist?

gladmom-That’s so awesome! Can you tell what SAT II scores he got?

congrats gladmom! that’s really great.

It should be noted though, that in order to have the best shot at
HYPS, you should probably stay committed to things you like, and take the ACT/SAT once to get the best possible score. Just a lil note to future applicants :)

tromboner: no problem, best of luck to you!

What really matters?
Did any of you have OUTSTANDING EC’s?
